Shhhh don’t reveal our secret. The less people know, the better it is.
idk i kinda hate the countryside after 10 years, just way too dependent on cars
Depends largely on the countryside in particular
YOU DO NOT want to live somewhere in the nomansland in Brandenburg or meckpom
What about small cities (50k – 200k inhabitants)?
The biggest problem of the countryside is the lack of young people
I like big cities way better. More convenient, more things to do, more culture, more liberal/progressive.
Sure, unless you need a job, or easy access to services, or public transport. Much nicer environment for a kid to grow up in though.
Countryside
Grew up on the countryside, but I’ll never go back. The only thing I occasionally miss, is complete silence at night or seeing a starry sky (too much light pollution on the city). But Utrecht (320k) is awesome in every way
Respectfully disagree. At least not in Germany
As someone who grew up in a rural small town (5-6k people) and now lives in a medium-large City (280k people) I honestly disagree.
There are benefits and drawbacks to both.
Im glad i got the countryside when i moved to cataluña instead of living directly on barcelona
If you like having to take the car to buy a loaf of bread (or to do literally anything at all) then sure
There is a third option and that is living just outside of a bigger city. Basically I have the best of both worlds.
Why not both? Apartment in the city and cabin in the woods.
Please don’t encourage the city people to come to the countryside.
Countryside?
The countryside is very different, and it’s about what you prefer rather than better or worse tbh.
Time moves slower and there’s less to do in the countryside, but it certainly has it’s charms and often a much better togetherness from my experience.
I was born and raised in a small town with around 16.000 people living in the entire municipality but moved to the capital of my country (which has more than a million inhabitants) a couple of years ago.
I don’t think I would ever want to move back although I do like to visit every now and again.
I’m very happy in my city
Honestly Europe is the best place to live for Big Cities, they tend to be much more walkable and have good public transport then outside like the US
Ye
Growing up in a small village in the country side of Germany, I could not wait to get the hell out of there. But sure, I might enjoy it once I lose all my brain elasticity.
Why live around other p*ople around when you can just live alone in a swamp
There is a middle ground too though. Live in a town near the big city.
I’m wondering if you’ve ever lived in the countryside. If young people are running away, there should be a couple of reasons
Have you visited big cities from poor countries like india, Indonesia, Philippines, Brazil ? At least we can walk, enjoy a park, and even do bicycle (and it doesn’t smell sewers at every corner and doesn’t flood after 2 days rain)
As a savage, i must say that I greatly envy european contryside. No obsene urban sprawl, small villages are still neatly packed together. Peak living.
But what about those wonderful medium sized cities where you get the anonymity of a big city mixed with a cozy sense of familiarity and the off chance you bump into someone you know?
Sorry I was just expressing my almost nationalistic feelings for glorious Bristol
