PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College cross country and track alumna Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and graduate student Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) will compete for New Zealand at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany from Friday, July 25 to Sunday, July 27. May will race in the women’s 1,500 meters, while Back lines up in the men’s 5,000-meter final.

May, an eight-time All-American during her time at Providence College, recently set a personal best time and had a first-place finish with a time of 4:04.40 in the 1,500 meters on July 13 at the Meeting Sport e Solidarietà Lignano in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy. The performance elevated her to number two on New Zealand’s all-time rankings. She followed up with another victory in the event on July 19 at the Night of Athletics in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, crossing the line in 4:08.34. After her final collegiate race in June, May started her summer on July 9 with a third-place finish at Cork City Sports in Cork, Ireland in 8:45.23. May is set to compete in the first round of the 1,500 meters on Friday, July 25, with the final scheduled for Sunday, July 27.

Back, a five-time All-BIG EAST honoree, owns a personal best of 13:39.75 in the 5,000 meters. Back posted a season’s best in the 1,500 meters on June 14 at the Adrian Martinez Classic in Concord, Mass. in 3:44.96. The 5,000-meter final is set for Saturday, July 26.
