Was picking up stuff for an event with friends and thought it’d be good to rock up with some crisps and coke. What a boon for me, a nice 3 for €5 offer. Picked up my goods no bother and scan them in the self service yoke.
Off I go on my way and I look at my receipt and see I’m paying full price. I go back in and ask what the story is and you’d swear I’d two heads.
One of the girls brings me over and starts explaining how I can get 3 crisps OR 3 cokes OR 3 chocolates.
Now I’m not too fussed really about the €1.50 or whatever I’ve lost but she then brought the manager over and he began saying the same thing and that it wasn’t confusing for people at all and very clear. I tried to say that what they were doing is misleading and pleading my case but they were making me feel like a troglodyte the way they were looking at me and just shaking their heads.
I asked the manager if he had a few minutes, and when he did, I offered to stand at the door with him and survey the people coming in. He of course then said he was actually really busy and that he had to leave.
Obviously not the largest issue facing our republic but what do ye think? Am I being a numpty or am I right in thinking this is clearly wrongly labelled?

Do you not need your Real Rewards card to trigger the multibuy deal?
Id naturally assume it was in each product category to be honest
I would have thought it was any of the 3 for €5 myself.
Nah they’re taking the piss
I would have assumed the same as you. What’s annoying is they now require you to have a rewards card to get discounts.
Usually deals will say mix and match somewhere otherwise i wouldve presumed it was just 3 of one item.
Uniquely supervalu issue. Tesco would be like have at it 3 of what you want for €5
They are Irish but supervalu don’t make it easy to support Irish
I agree OP. Beside, what difference would it make to Supervalu if you are still paying a fiver anyway?
You’re possibly being a numpty. They have the little price card on each shelf underneath the item and it says “3 Cokes for €5” or whatever.
The use of the word “any” makes your initial interpretation the better one.
Says ‘Any 3 for 5’ and the website confirms its mix and match (and I tested it).
If I was a manager and some lunatic offered to stand at the door with me to survey incoming customers, I’d also suddenly be busy.
Typically these offers will say “mix n match” or something. It’s not “misleading” per se, it’s perfectly accurate. Pick any product and you can have any 3 of them for €5. Saying that, i can see how you interpreted it the way you did.
To me, “Any 3 for €5 range” strongly suggests that I can have *any 3 from the range for €5*…
Given that the sale stickers make don’t seem to differentiate between categories of snack, I would have thought this was mix & match.
I’m shocked they didn’t accept the survey option, not really weird at all
SuperValu is not super and not value. They have some nice stuff but are a complete misnomer.
Raging. They want you to spend €15 and get 3 of each type
I’d agree with you op, I think it’s misleading.
Best advice is to shop around. Plenty of bargains to be had.
“Any 3 for €5 range” suggests that it’s any three items on that shelf. There’s definitely some piss taking here.
I was all set to tell you that you were being a numpty but you’re in the right here with the way they’ve worded it.
Is clearly says “and 3 for €5” – Tesco have a very similar offer in their stores and it works the way it should.
Tesco have something like this but it is actually any 3 for €5. It’s definitely misleading and they should probably have them separated more if it’s only 3 of each kind for €5.
The piss has been taken long long ago.
3 of Any for €5 = what they said
Any 3 for €5 = what you thought
It’s supervalue they’re never not taking the piss
They’re taking the piss.
Why does it say “Any” if it is only the same one 3 times. Either the girl in the shop doesn’t know how it works or the guy writing the sign doesn’t know. Either way, no you are 100% correct. “Any X for Y” means mix and match
Brand name stuff is gouging like fuck, I work in a supermarket I’ve borne witness
Literal psychopathic capitalism displayed like a whore in a window
Tell us which SuperValu it is, just so we can go there and make the same complaint
You found it misleading, so obviously it is misleading to some people. If the manager would use their brain, they would make an exception for you and fix the shelves so it is more clear.
Other SuperValus run this same offer and it is mix & match so I think the issue is with this store
These kinds of offers have always been mix and match in the past.
SuperValu is a franchised supermarket, so it was probably that shop specifically that was going against the grain of what Musgraves intended.
Their leaflet says 3 for €5 Mix and Match on the app for this range. Therefore, this store is incorrect, and you need to contact their Head Office with your receipt to complain.
It is mix and match according to the SuperValu leaflet – https://supervalu.ie/offers/leaflet/510#page17
Back about 20 years ago I had the job of putting out those signs and labels.
I also would’ve assumed the yellow sign as being correct, so one of any three items 🫠
It’s probably all changed since but the system that gave out the specials would’ve created the SEL (the red/white tag) and they would’ve been product specific, and then it was the yellow signs that explained the offer in detail.
Back then the shop I was in would’ve given you the offer as the sign is ambiguous.
I’m with you on this one OP.
ANY being the optimal word. Case closed imo.
I complained because one morning they had no one on the checkouts in the sundrive one, the self scanner wouldn’t accept my €10 off €50 voucher and they said I had no choice but to leave the stuff or pay the full amount. They sent my complaint to the store manager. He gave me a €20 voucher and shortly after they replaced the shit old self scanners.
Send a complaint through the website.
SuperValu always has a fair degree of taking the hand..
It say’s any 3 for 5.Not any 3 of the same for 5.I think their the fucking morons in this case 😂, unless I’m reading it wrong 🤔😂
I’m pretty sure it’s typically done in the one of each for five euro way. So no your not a fool
Possibly I know the issue that happened here, used to do it myself when I managed a spar. Id reactivate offers but not tie them together, so instead if 3 different ranges being in the offer, they’d all be separate and the offer wouldn’t come up when the differing items were scanned.
Any normal person would think it’s any 3 for 5, considering they’re all the same price and right beside each other.
It’s Bros before …. They deffo got that bit wrong anyway
Have experienced same in there
Its misleading.
