My biggest dream is to visit Frankfurt exactly at that time, I’ve heard a lot of stories from back then. It was still West Germany, and the progress was very high.
When I think of Deutschland, I imagine this.
Surprisingly similar to how it looks today. Obviously not 1:1 the same, but apart from the skyline much of the city still looks like this
Thank you for sharing this. I was born in 1985 🙂
It still looks like this.
Once upon a time, when things were moving forward.

Ah yea good times — record unemployment, forests dying from acid rain, neo-Nazis making a comeback, and the Stasi tuning in from across the wall.
Nowadays people would be offended by all the rainbows
I was at that hotel on picture 4 not to long ago for a visa appointment. Funny to see it 40 years ago there.
I spent a lot of time in Frankfurt during this era. Thanks for posting- great memories!
Looks beautiful and makes you think when the junkies came to Frankfurt. Does anybody know?
Frankfurt am Main?
Does anyone know what car model is in picture 3 to the right of the black BMW? It looks somewhat out of place. It’s way more rounded than the other boxy cars. Was it a new model or just an oddity of design?
Where is the Hauptbahnhof and that street before it
Aww Koblenz (Picture1), my hometown <3
Nice photos.
But “Good times”? I doubt. Because they were so “good”, times now are worse.
I’m pretty sure the first picture is Koblenz btw, that’s the entrance to the pedestrian zone viewed from former Zentralplatz, C&A is still there.
