The jury is very much out on Wrexham going into the Championship next season. Few know what to expect, but few would bet against them challenging once again.
Wrexham have returned to the second tier of English football for the first time in more than 40 years following their 2nd place finish in League One last season.
For owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, it’s the third straight promotion, but many expect Wrexham to stall this time round, with the Championship bringing much fiercer and much more resourceful opponents than any season before.
Though ahead of next season, many pundits and fans and even Wrexham players have backed the club to do well next season, and with the recent flurry of transfer activity, many more may back the Dragons to cause a few upsets in the second tier next season.
This week, Wrexham have announced the signing of George Thomason from Bolton Wanderers who arrives after Liberato Cacace signed from Empoli in a club record £4m deal. There are also reports that Josh Windass is set to undergo a medical with the club

We asked Grok, the AI bot built for Elon Musk’s X platform, where Wrexham will finish in the Championship next season. And it had a very interesting response with Grok backing Wrexham to achieve a midtable finish in the second tier, avoiding relegation entirely.
Grok wrote: “A mid-table finish (10th to 15th) is the most probable outcome for Wrexham in the 2025-26 Championship season, balancing their ambition and resources against the league’s competitive depth.
“Survival is the baseline goal, but their track record of defying expectations suggests they could outperform modest predictions with the right recruitment and adaptation.”
Back in the old Second Division, Wrexham’s best-placed finish was 15th, in the 1978/79 season under then manager Arfon Griffiths.

Speaking this summer, Mac has played down the idea of consolidating in the Championship. He and Reynolds want to keep the momentum going, but the fact is that the Championship is a completely different ball game to anything the club has experienced so far.
Beating relegation next season would be as impressive as any of their three promotions. Anything better would be a huge achievement.
But speaking recently, club CEO Michael Williamson sent a warning to the Championship roster, suggesting that Wrexham could be in the running if they can keep their heads above water in the first half of the campaign.
He said: “The expectation is, and Rob McElhenney will say that he doesn’t know what this word is, but obviously we need to consolidate our position in the Championship.
“If we are able to find ourselves halfway through the season, in December, in that 3-4-5-6-7 position, people should be worried about us. Because I believe if we make the playoffs with the type of mentality that we have, anything can happen in 90 minutes.”
Wrexham are set to play Dutch side FC Groningen in a pre-season friendly on August 2nd.
