Canada has announced an additional contribution of $14.6 million to support the maintenance and repair of Leopard 2 tanks provided to Ukraine, underscoring Ottawa’s ongoing commitment to Kyiv’s defense against Russian aggression, according to Canadian officials on July 21.
The pledge was made by Canadian Defence Minister David McGuinty during the 29th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, commonly known as the Ramstein format.
The virtual meeting was co-hosted by the United Kingdom and Germany, bringing together more than 50 countries committed to Ukraine’s military support.
The funds will go toward sustaining the Leopard 2 Maintenance and Repair Facility located in Poland, a critical logistics hub for keeping Ukraine’s armored forces operational.
“These funds are allocated from Canada’s 2025–2026 military aid budget for Ukraine,” the Canadian Ministry of National Defence confirmed in an official release.
McGuinty also reaffirmed a much larger commitment first announced in June by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the G7 Leaders’ Summit—an additional $1.48 billion in military assistance for Ukraine.
With this latest announcement, Canada’s total military aid to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022 now stands at $4.78 billion.
The Defence Minister further noted that the delivery of Canadian-supplied Armoured Combat Support Vehicles to a logistics hub in Poland will begin in August 2025, with all 50 units expected to arrive before year’s end. Training for Ukrainian personnel is already underway.

“Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war is also a fight for democracy, freedom, and human rights,” McGuinty said.
“Through our coordinated military assistance, Canada and our international partners are working to enhance Ukraine’s defences against Russian aggression. Canada commends the bravery and strength of Ukrainians, and we will continue to stand with Ukraine.”
Earlier, Canada transferred approximately $1.7 billion to Ukraine from the proceeds generated by frozen Russian sovereign assets.
