A headline practically spellcasting SUMMON FROTHERS to the thread.
The local authorities need to decide between building houses and increasing the population density, or chasing tourists away, or chasing locals away.
It’s a local issue and it should be decided locally and Holyrood should ensure that sufficient powers are in place for them to carry it out.
I agree with this.
But let’s not stop at just the Gaelic communities. Start there, then have a massive tax on all second homes and properties registered as an airbnb that aren’t just an owner occupier renting out a room.
Deagh naidheachd!
I have no idea about the legal implication but why stop there? Let’s have targeted restrictions on second homes/airbnbs. If an area has specific needs such as preserving Gaelic or low housing stock for locals let’s just outright ban them.
Hell, I’d even be open to discussing the idea of forced sale of empty properties. What about land reform? Free up land and invest in new homes.
It’s weird to see the usual sort actually get furious at the idea of getting people from other places to pay to maintain local culture just because it’s Gaelic and they hate actual British cultures
People can do what they like with their own personal property.
