Some time ago someone posted something about revoking your consent to meta so they can‘t sell your data, apparently it was so widespread that too many people revoked their consent so now we get hit with this 💩

apparently a „law“ in switzerland forced meta to make us either pay, give consent or delete the account entirely…

these data sell tactics have gone way too far, when will they ban the sale of personal information…

  1. Yea. Its crazy, unfair and unbelievable, but they found another way to “force” people “legally”, especially them who declined the usage of their data before, to consent now OR pay monthly…

  2. Please don’t get Zucked. IMNSHO, we all should just delete all our accounts from Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads), or, if that’s not possible, use a burner phone for only them; and never talk about anything important over them. Mainly younger people, who still have decades of data collection in front of them that can and will be used in ways that we may not have any idea just yet, should be careful.

Our privacy is worth more than Zucks profits.

  3. I just had this now. I wonder if our law authorizes to do that?
    I will do some research.

    EDIT:
After some research, it appears that According to Article 30 of the nLPD, consent must be freely given, specific, informed, and unconditioned.

It’s not what happens in this situation as Meta forces their user to choose between pay or “sell” their personal data.

  4. They don’t sell your data. That would be stupid of them

  5. At the currebt state of facebook I wouldn’t pay anything to use it. It’s just AI slop.

But generally, it’s better when social media costs.

  6. A tech company doesn’t want to offer their products for free because their employees don’t want to work for free either and their servers don’t run on fairy dust.

    Shocking!

Wait until you find out how Google makes money 🤦🏻

  7. Isn’t that how it should be? Its well known that if its for free, you are the product – they need to make money somehow. If they actually adhere to it (not selling my data), I’m looking forward to be able to make that choice.

  8. What a bunch of crybabies, if you use any social media your data will get handled and sold – just delete it, instagram is not a basic need or a human right

  9. When will people just finally delete their shit and give them the finger when they get abused by a tech company?
Legislative won’t come and protect your ass if you haven’t understood this by now.

  10. That has already been around for a while now. It has nothing to do with the other consent to use your data for their AI, this one is for ads….they are in the advertising business afterall.

  11. As much as I hate meta with all my soul, it doesn’t shock me.
A company that sell his product/service is perfectly normal. Far more normal than offering their service free of charge but exploiting and selling the data of their user without their consent/knowledge.
Every company need to make money one way or the other, it’s just that some ways are more ethical than the others

But if they did that from the start, they wouldnt be as popular as they got at their start…

Thst being said, I highly doubt that meta will be true to it’s word and stop using paid users data.

  12. Same old story. If something is free, then you are the product

  13. They do the same as always, chill. Only difference now: you can pay now to avoid what they did forever

  14. I deleted my Facebook account 15 years ago. You should do the same.
