Typhoon Wipha batters Honk Kong and brings disruptions • FRANCE 24 English
France 24’s Kimmy Nedleck sent us this update. People in Hong Kong have been warned to stay indoors. They’ve also been told to stay away from windows in case their windows are hit by flying debris and the windows cave in. Shops are shut and their windows are taped up. And the public transport system has also shut down. There are no buses and there’s no MTR the train network here in the territory. Now these typhoons, they do happen every year. So people know how to stay safe. They know how to prepare. But despite that, there have been at least two injuries earlier this morning. There have also been sea swells in some parts of the territory, swells of up to three meters. and the public are being told to stay away from the shoreline, to stay away from doing any water sports. And fairies have also been shut down for the day. Planes have also been grounded, at least 200 flights canled, and people are being told that they can reschedu at no extra cost. Now, these types of storms are going to be getting more frequent. The Hong Kong weather observatory has said that what’s contributing to these stronger storms is climate change because tropical cyclones get their strength from the heat of the sea. So as the sea heats, that’s essentially a battery powering more of these type of tropical cyclones.
Hong Kong has issued its highest tropical cyclone warning as Typhoon Wipha batters the city, with authorities cancelling classes and grounding hundreds of flights and other transport services. France24 correspondent Camille Nodelec reports from Hong Kong.

Haha it's Hong Kong not Honk Kong
If it's Honk Kong, shouldn't it be Honk Konk to perfect your editing?
It's a bit of weather, storms happen, always have.
Infrastructure can be rebuilt. Trust in preparedness cannot. Typhoon Wipha should push all governments to rethink how they protect people before—not after—the storm.
