I recently saw that Meta wants to enforce personalized ads or paid sub.
I am strongly against the paid sub but also saw that they are offering different pricing to residents in Germany. Is this allowed? I thought price discrimination was forbidden

Also, any way to block ads while using the ad based option 😅

  1. Are you asking if it’s illegal for companies to charge a different price in different countries?

  2. While mine also said 7,99€, price discrimination is not forbidden.

  3. ? Adjusting prices based on country of residence is legal and almost every larger service provider does it.

It’s because of purchasing power differences and local income ranges or taxes.

  4. Android has a lot of options to get rid of ads. Unfortunately, it looks like you’re on iOS.

  5. Omg this has been really annoying me. I refuse to accept this terms and have been just closing the app every time the pop up shows. F*ck meta!!

Reg your question, What do you mean by price discrimination? Having different prices across markets is not something new and is legal!

  6. Click the free option, then next, then next again, then on the final page you can select non-tracking or something like that. They make you think it’s either paying or being tracked on that first page, it’s shitty, but on the last page you can still select default ads or whatever they call it (the option where you can’t track your data)

  7. People should just stop enabling Meta and its shitty business practices (which end up feeding technofascist election campaigns in the US…)

  8. Use the web version.
It sucks but that’ll make you use instagram less, which is probably a good thing

  9. Maybe using a VPN and setting it to Albania works, as advertising is illegal there.

  10. Nothing is free in this world other than the air you breathe.

  11. Hi, you could try to load Instagram on a web browser and use an Ad-blocker plugin. I have tried this in the past and it worked.

  12. It’s clearly written whether you want to sell your data or pay us ? It’s a simple choice, pricing is subjective based on various intricate details

  13. You can choose to see less personalized ads. This is actually a really good option we have in the EU – you choose how to pay for the service, be it with money or with your data.

  14. well somebody needs to pay the bills for all the energy required for AI, right?

  15. “your data won’t be processed for adds” i dont buy it. If it is processed at all they’ll find a way to process it for adds.

  16. I actually liked this. This motivates me not to open the app

  17. I’ve deleted insta and Facebook accounts a year and a half ago due to this.
They littarly asked “pay, or accept we sell your data” and I decided against both.

  18. What others said but also you can use an objection form in the privacy section to restrict further.

  19. 7,99 if you subscribe from a mobile phone, 5,99 if you subscribe from a desktop

  20. to be fair, the ad experience on Insta is one of the better ones. you can easily just scroll past. i dont get why anyone would pay here

  21. Facebook and instagram both are doing this .. I didn’t open since both apps are showing this

  22. Also received this yesterday… well in intended from the government to protect data from being sold, but ultimately all that forces people to do is check a box

  23. And after you choose the ad version, and then choose unpersonalized ads so that they don’t keep taking your data, it starts punishing you with very frequent “ad-breaks” asking you again to activate personalized ads. The whole thing is absurd.

  24. Same on Facebook – forcing to accept their ads. You can remove the ad personalization for each of their 1 gazillion companies, but it‘s done intentionally to be so much effort that hardly anyone will complete it.

  25. I was reasonably sure that there has to be a third option for ads but without personalisation. This feels sketchy, and if it’s not actually against the rules it’s almost certainly against the spirit of the rules and that loophole will get closed up as soon as it’s noticed.

Hopefully with more big fines for meta.

  26. I’ve never ever used that app. It destroys the concept of private life. Many people simply strive to show off. I recently hosted guests from another country. I and my wife took days off to prepare for them. But they, oh boy, instead of chatting to us, they just post photos. Instead of sharing real memories with us, they shared photos of the lovely places we took them to.These people are delusional, they’ve lost track of what’s real and what’s not. They’re living for likes.

  27. You really should learn what paywall is.

Paywall is when a service does not allow you to use it or part of it, unless you pay.

When they ask you to either pay or continue using it for free with ad support, it is called a Subscription option.

  28. People want stuff without paying for it, how do you think the platform can survive? 🤣

  29. Try this https://www.joindns4.eu/for-public#resolver-options

Free ad-blocking non-tracking dns funded by the eu 😀

  30. That was the last straw for me. Uninstalled as soon as i got that message.

  31. There will be a day where they say ‘fuck it’ and then all social media will be subscription service, and people will STILL pay into it.

  32. You know, this is a good thing. You were previously forced to pay with your data, now you get a choice. And Instagram needs to make money somehow.
