Newcastle United headed off to Singapore today for the first leg of their Asian pre-season tour, which will also see the Magpies head to South Korea.
While all of the talk is about Alexander Isak’s absence from the 29-man squad and the connotations of that, there is a player who will be hoping to join up with the squad in Seoul.
New signing Park Seung-soo was unveiled today by the club, having joined from Suwon Samsung Bluewings in Korea.
While Park will be going into the Under 21s set up to be developed and to get him up to speed with the English game, it would be a huge missed opportunity not to parade him around Korea when the club travels there later this month.
Park Seung-soo has strongly suggested he will be joining up with Newcastle in Korea
Indeed, as part of his welcome interview with NUFC media, Park talks about returning to Korea with his new team and playing in Suwong so soon after leaving.
We can’t imagine the club would have left that part of the interview in if it wasn’t expected that Park was set to join up with his new teammates and perhaps make his debut in his homeland.
Given how much Korean fans flock to their own – just look at the hero status of Son Heung-min at Spurs – Newcastle can’t let this PR opportunity pass them by.
Park Seung-soo is brimming with confidence
At just 18 years old, Park seems very confident in his abilities and has his sights set on the Newcastle first-team, so perhaps a little outing in pre-season could be a good thing.
Eddie Howe likes to give youth a chance in pre-season, so we see no reason why Park shouldn’t get a run out at some point.
it feels like the closest we’re going to have to a new signing while out there so let’s get right behind the lad. Make him feel like he’s made the right call.
