  1. Why does the US need to secure a hostage deal?

  2. Following Israel’s agreement, probably under at least some direct pressure from the US, to many concessions about a cease fire deal which would lead to end the war, Hamas has repeatedly tried to stall for time, manipulate, squeeze more out of the deal and even changed their minds on previously agreed upon terms.

The last Hamas answers were apparently so ridiculous, that the involved nations did not even share it with Israel. And now we learn that the American team is giving up for the moment completely.

As far as I know, the terms discussed included a 60 day cease fire. With guaranties from the US that Israel will not return to the fighting as long as the negotiation to end the war are going on.

The agreement would also include a retreat by IDF soldiers from most of the strip, the release of 10 alive hostages (Assuming around 20 remain alive), and the bodies of some other hostages. All in exchange for Palestinian terrorists, some who are murderers serving a lifetime in prison. In addition, an agreement to a lot of aid to go in Gaza.

Israel’s negotiation team has also already announced they will leave.

  3. Here’s the most recent proposal presented without comment for everyone to judge:
    *

    1. IDF withdraws almost entirely from Gaza, all the way to 1km from the border

    2. Israel releases 1,000+ Palestinian prisoners, including 200 with life sentences for mass murder and members that participated in the Oct 7 Massacre

    3. Israel agrees to a **permanent ceasefire**, backed by US guarantees that they will not return to war

    4. Hamas releases 10 of the 20 alive hostages, **retaining the other half of the hostages indefinitely**

    5. Unlimited aid shipments including fuel and dual use goods resume into Gaza

    6. Negotiations between Hamas and Israel will commence about the rest of the hostages (but Israel cannot attack Hamas anymore)

  4. Hamas is a war time government, they have role/use as a peacetime government, it’s not how their business model works! Same thing with Arafat as to why he never accepted any of the peace treaties with Israel, he was afraid of losing his employment/status as he wouldn’t have a place in a peacetime government focusing on economic prosperity!

  5. It’s worth noting that this comes after [nearly 30 Western or Western-sphere countries had foreign ministers sign a statement](https://abcnews.go.com/International/25-countries-sign-statement-calling-end-war-gaza/story?id=123926786) calling for a permanent and unconditional ceasefire. Huge shock that after that Hamas decides it no longer wants to negotiate in seriousness anymore. I seriously think what’s been one of the biggest reasons that this war has dragged on are countries continuing to pass statements like these deincentivizing Hamas from continuing negotiations. Utterly ridiculous and shameful.
