You know what’s really ironic, especially from the economical neoliberal perspective that MR and N-VA hold? The NMBS has now chosen the Spanish company CAF to build new train cars. This company faces criticism in Spain because it’s involved in constructing trains and routes in occupied territories in Israel. They are sometimes even labeled as the builders of “apartheid trains.”
Yet, because of the Belgian stance of not criticizing anything Israel does, this issue hasn’t played any role in the decision though it absolutely should.
To make the decision taste even worse: not only could many jobs disappear in Charleroi and Bruges, but we’re also funneling taxpayers money to a company that actively builds infrastructure in occupied territories AND that also operates in Israel’s high-tech and cyber industry. Because CAF is involved in much more than just trains and tracks.
But BDW said the Jews are ” the way of the light”. He has historically political ties to the orthodox Jewish community in Antwerp.
Now that he’s PM, he’s in narrow streets and keeps awkwardly silent.
Someone should make a picture of BDW and GLB with their thumbs up with Gaza shot/starving children in the background. That’s essentially what they’re telling us, that they’re totally cool with what Israel is doing.
Slowly pivoting toward “everyone will always have been against this”.
Also really convenient to take a bold stance a week before the government goes into summer recess.
He barks but doesn’t bite. Just a show performance. Look how morally superior I am, while also doing nothing.
