Every grandparents house had this

  1. Had in my bedroom ceiling and used to find shapes like animals and faces in it when I was going to sleep, trippy ass ceilings😂😂

  2. I remember picking at the wood chips and being told off for making holes

Also looking for faces in the ceiling at night

Good times, no stress, I miss it

  3. Millennial here!! | *own a house* (I know, weird) built in 1979 and it has these ceilings. I love them plus it’s super expensive and messy to have them shaved off lol.

  4. We have it throughout our house. Bedrooms, hallway, downstairs bog, and living room. Fortunately, the landing, bathroom and kitchen have it all skimmed over.

Probably gonna end up with asbestosis.

That said, my grandad used to work with asbestos in the 50s/60s. He’d cut it with a saw. He lived til 91, and it was throat cancer and asbestosis that got him. But he was tap dancing and replacing glass panels in his greenhouse until he was 89!

  5. Artex. Me Dad did thousands of houses in this. Quite a skill in its time. Most people wanted basic stuff. A stiple board and a plastic bag would get you this effect.

  6. I got the shit kicked out of me repeatedly for picking the wallpaper as a kid.

    Never stopped me.

  7. And the best part is that there was a four-year period when this was done with asbestos! Make sure you get it tested if you have it ripped down or even fit a smoke detector.

  8. Every house i’ve been in for the past 45 years has had this, unless it’s causing issues there is no reason to change it

  9. My parents moved out of that place 2 years ago. They also had walls thar colour.

No woodchip wallpaper though. There might have been some on the walls when we moved in ,in the 80s, but it was foam rather than woodchip, my Dad hated it and stripped it off in favour of yellowy paint.

  10. Own a house from 1970 and every ceiling has artes, most probably with asbestos for the lols

  11. I just looked up at my ceiling, guess what? And nope there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. As a homeowner there are a million and one other priorities above this.

  12. can someone explain to her what ‘new’
    aggressive sales techniques
    and
‘ keeping up with the jones’ ‘ means ?

have u never seen laurence twat face on the telly ?

  13. Jarvis Cockers girlfriend had woodchip on the wall …. She didn’t notice him at all 🤷‍♀️

  14. My favourite part of the story is there is a grandma out there with a beef with Hacker the Dog!

  15. Leave her alone! She’s just a normal innocent grandma.

  16. To be honest, I’m not a fan of modern decor either:

It’s bland and soulless and feels a little too clean. I’ve heard it called corpo decor. I’m not arguing that our grandparents did it better, but at least they added a little of their own personalities to their own living space, even if it was lost amongst the clutter of china and paperweights.

  17. Ahhh the joys. Our house was built in the 1930s. All ceilings had this horrible stuff and then the walls had layers of paint, plaster, wallpaper in different orders!

  18. Grandparents ? We had a house with this shit and the spikes crap on wall, one small slip to instant skin removal..

Horrible stuff and the person who thought it was a good idea should be made to take it off house walls / ceilings the absolute sod..

  19. I remember my dad has a textured wall… I think it was paint? I don’t remember. I was always getting told off for picking bits of it off.

  20. Give it 10 years & when everywhere has smooth ceilings, textured ceilings will be the trend

  21. Council house tenant here! The entire house STILL has these ceilings 🥺

  22. This plus the weird wallpaper every 80s and 90s house had. What a trip to look at on microdots (pun intended ffs)

  23. Me with a living room ceiling and stairway with this.

Too much of a hassle to get it sorted.

  24. Alot of houses still do. Chances are it’s artex so isn’t going to be removed anytime soon
