not related, but: when I come back to the UK, I spent a few minutes being surprised that traffic lights do this. (North American traffic lights go straight from red to green.)

I had to explain who Ronnie was to an American friend recently because my local constabulary was having the piss taken out of it and Ronnie’s name kept popping up.
I’m going the other way – I grew up in Pickering, and I’m shocked that the Traction Engine Rally is in Whitby – it’s a bloody Pickering classic, that.
I used to own one of these, but I don’t recall being an “enthusiast”….
Wiring went, and I broke down with a flat battery (from shorting out) in Slough of all places.
