Cyprus is being ravaged by “devastating” wildfires that are raging throughout part of the island, mainly in the south near the Troodos mountain range.
The fires started on 24 July 2025 and have caused considerable concern, particularly amongst tourists. The island’s tourism industry, a major driver of its economy, has come under scrutiny, with hundreds of holidaymakers unclear about whether the fires will force costly changes to their plans.
Local officials as well as some of the UK’s biggest travel operators such as ABTA have moved in to reassure holidaymakers that their breaks are safe. Despite the fires, which have yet to be brought under control, popular resorts such as Paphos and Limassol have not been affected, and travel companies say no evacuations of their clients have been required.
Major Travel Operators Report No Disruptions
ABTA’s comments have been backed up by a number of leading UK travel companies, including Jet2holidays, TUI and Sunvil, who have all said that their clients are safe from the blazes. Both companies have also said that the visit of this operator will not adversely affect anyone on holiday in Cyprus and no changes have been made to bookings. Wildfires Ravage Southern Cyprus

FCDO Issues Updated Travel Advice
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice regarding the ongoing wildfires in Cyprus. The FCDO confirmed that the fires are still active in the Paphos and Limassol areas, though the flames have not directly impacted popular tourist destinations. However, the FCDO advised travelers that disruptions to essential services, such as electricity and water, may be experienced in affected areas.
The FCDO recommended that travelers stay informed through official channels and local authorities, as the situation may continue to evolve. Tourists are encouraged to follow any advice from local authorities and remain aware of potential changes.
Conclusion: Cyprus Remains Safe for Tourists
Appearing to spread the flames at will, however, was more in the realm of myth and urban legend than anything else. While southern Cyprus still faces widespread devastation from the fires, the vast majority of the island’s key tourist areas remain unaffected.
