dont worry, just submit your data to a third-party company based in the US and have a bigger risk of your data being leaked and stolen, and you too can be a *good* citizen!
How does one scan on a pc with no camera?
Laughs in VPN
First they came for the gooners, and I did not speak out because I was too busy gooning.
Then they came for the coomers, and I did not speak out because I was too busy cooming.
Then they came for the wankers, and I did not speak out because I was too busy wanking.
Then they came and I did not speak because I also came.
Literally 1984.
Thank god for VPN’s but I reckon they’ll backtrack when advertising companies start losing out on that sweet sweet 💷💷💷
the government is imposing this shit on us because the government hasn’t figured out that the kids are more tech savvy than them (and us) and if kids want to see p*rn, they will get around any blocks.
I worked in a computer store, we had computers locked to certain sites, password protected and monitored. Kid walks into the store, no more than 12 years old and wanted to visit a particular site. I told him of the locks because of adult material, he turns to the computer and bish bash bong.. he had disabled all the locks and was on a very adult site… walked off very pleased with himself.. When I reported this back they told me it was impossible.. but I saw him do it.
“But why?”
Because parents can’t parent and big brother government is annoyed people under 18 are looking at porn(even though a good chunk are having sex before 16 anyway) so they have to annoy anyone of any age who wants to look at porn.
The wanker database lmao.
If the new law is something you don’t agree with, please take the time to sign the petition.
Either that or enjoy the slow erosion of online anonymity
Because parents cant be fucked to parent anymore. Its easier to place the blame on faceless companies than yourself for you kids topping themselves over cuntish comments on facebook/twitter/instagram.
Also because you vill haff zee online Eye Dee.
Before you simply blame Labour (who had the power to stop this), remember this was enacted under the previous CONSERVATIVE government and it is only coming into effect now. Rather than tell parents who complain about their children being exposed to “harmful” content to take responsibility and parent their children, they instead decided to impose blanket censorship across the whole of the population.
I’d say they’ve created a greater risk to their citizens in terms of online security, and then they have reduced the risk of young people accessing adult content.
Typical knee jerk reaction by middle aged politicians to appease the right wing media. It will not work as more and more people will switch to a VPN.
My browser has a free VPN built in, one click and it’s circumvented… *Slow clap*. Well implemented government.
It’s important that I scan my face so that I can read slightly off-colour jokes on r/shittymoviedetails or generally see any content, no matter how tame or unpornographic, that somebody overcautious has decided to tag NSFW.
It is a sacrifice I must make, as it is the only foolproof way to protect people who shouldn’t from seeing inappropriate content online, which definitely can’t be circumnavigated by a VPN, and definitely, definitely won’t push younger people away from comparatively controlled Internet environments to the murkier corners of the Internet.
Prohibition and censorship always works! Please come and review my papers!
I can’t even view my own posts on my own reddit account because some are marked NSFW. They’re not flagged NSFW, they’re entirely gone when viewed without a VPN. What the actual fuck is this dystopian bullshit.
I just finally got up to speed transfering from Google to Firefox and now I have to do it again to OperaGX.
edit: Shoutout to reddit for also making the age verification in US date format, so now i’ve just entered that incorrectly. And guess what, IT STILL DOESN’T LET ME SEE MY OWN POSTS AFTER MARKING MY AGE!
Because parents don’t want to make sure their kids aren’t looking at things they shouldn’t, so the rest of the people in the uk have to deal with this.
I can’t stand the lack of accountability in the uk
I’m so glad that I grew up in the golden age of the internet, when piracy was rampant and message boards were unmoderated. It was a wild time when you could download almost anything from anothers PC, yes you might destroy your own in the process, but that was the price we paid for freedom.
It took me approximately 5 minutes to completely bypass their age verification.
The government, once again regulating tech when they don’t have a fucking clue about how anything works
All this does is endanger peoples data. And pushes kids who don’t know any better to unregulated parts of the internet which are even worse
You want to give facial scan data to a sketchy 3rd party in the US? Absolutely not.
This shit needs to be repealed, it’s so idiotic
Unpopular opinion here but I don’t care about it at all. You’ve had to put your ID into gambling sites for ages so it’s not exactly a new thing.
Obviously yes, it’s easy to bypass with a simple VPN (which is what I’ll do rather than give sites my data) but this solves the issue of not randomly/accidentally accessing porn when it’s not even your intention. Like 41% of young people have viewed porn on Twitter which is more than on an actual adult website. That’s fucked. If you want the NSFW filter off on Reddit to see even relatively mild content, the next time you type a letter in your search bar you’re inundated with all kinds of subs. You search for the single letter “b” and get blowjob subs in your results. Like wtf is that.
Really bothers me that kids can use a site like Twitter/Reddit/Tiktok for totally innocent reasons then happen to stagger across porn without any intention at all. If these sites could actually moderate themselves then laws like this wouldn’t be needed. But they don’t. I think this helps that
It’s not ideal and yes some under 13’s will find ways round it.
But it will stop thousands of children being exposed to harmful content that at worse may lead them to end their lives and at best just messes them up as people.
As much as it may make my life slightly more difficult that’s meaningless to helping young people.
Jesus this country is a such a shithole, I can’t even flick the bean without doxxing myself.
