The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon stars Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride took to the Hall H stage at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday to promote the upcoming season 3 of their zombie spinoff, but the biggest news to come out of the panel was the fact that the show will end after season 4.
The fourth and final season on AMC will begin filming in Spain within the next week and will consist of eight episodes. In a statement released by the network, Reedus noted that “Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride. It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it. This finale isn’t just an ending; it’s a celebration of what we’ve all shared together. Keep carrying that love forward — Daryl’s journey is far from over.”

Melissa McBride, who reprised her fan-favorite role of Carol in season 2 after a season 1 finale cameo, also said in a statement that “It has been the thrill of a lifetime to shoot this part of Daryl and Carol’s adventure together in Europe and I keep coming back for more of these two characters. There is still so much story left to tell and so much for the fans to look forward to. I’m going to revel in the moments as they come and am excited for the fans to see what we have been working on in these incredible locations.”
Fans will see those incredible locations throughout season 3, which was also filmed in Spain and will premiere Sept. 7 on AMC and AMC+. The network released first-look photos, as well as the official trailer for the season, which can be watched below.
The trailer explains how Daryl and Carol make their way from England (where they were headed at the end of season 2) to Spain, and it seems The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant may be to thank/blame, as his character starts the duo off on a storm-riddled boat ride. (Daryl has not had a lot of luck on boats lately.)
The good news: They survive! The bad news: They apparently end up in the wrong country and come across a guns-for-women scheme and now must face off against a new alleged king of Spain. At least they have some stunning locations at which to do battle with foes both living and dead.

In a final piece of Reedus-related news, the actor also announced that his unscripted motorcycle series Ride with Norman Reedus will return on Sept. 14 for a three-episode seventh season, which will feature Robert Patrick (who guest-starred on season 10 of The Walking Dead), Kim Coates (who just wrapped up a stint on The Walking Dead: Dead City), and Zahn McClarnon (who has yet to appear on a Walking Dead show, but give him time). TWD executive producers Scott M. Gimple and Greg Nicotero, as well as McBride, will also be making special appearances on the show.
