“Parliament considers all petitions that get more than 100,000 signatures for a debate”
It’s a bullshit promise and so fucking vague to begin with – and intentionally so
They’ll just turn around and say “yeah, we considered it for a debate and decided against it.” like they always do when these petitions are about something they’ve got no intention of doing no matter what.
100k wankers signed this
Theyre not going to overturn a policy which has just come into effect because 0.2% of the population signed a petition. They’ll bring it up in parliament, and just say “yeah we aren’t undoing this. It just went into effect and we considered it fully when initially proposed”
Honestly, I doubt they’ll remove it. After all most have just got a VPN to counter this and more will do so. This will leave a minority of poor wankers who cannot afford a decent VPN and forced to give more data to the corpos.
I can’t wait to see the numbers this gets in a weeks time. If this was done in 24 hours.
For give my ignorance, but why repeal the Act?
As an ex-pat who wasn’t paying attention… Did they actually pass some nonsensical anti-internet porn thing? What’s next? Ban the tide?
And it’s not just about porn. I can’t access a sub about the war in Ukraine that I used to check out several times a day. Have any subs about the middle East been labelled NSFW?
So, yeah, it’s not just about porn. It’s controlling access to much more.
That was the most challenging wank I’ve had in ages.
HAVING A WANK IS LEGAL AGAIN
Telling the future generations about the 2020s is going to be wild as a gen Z from the UK
it has a petition appeal for repealment not even a day into being into affect, that is very funny.
also yes there is no guarantee for debate, it will most likely be a no, however if it gets enough signatures it will be forced for debate.
Keep pushing it more and more. The news will have to pick it up eventually lol
How much did Nord VPN donate to the two major wankstain parties?
This is a good effort but I’m sorry it didn’t mean anything. This bill has been through four prime ministers (ok 3 as truss shouldn’t count) they knew it was going to be unpopular not even one million signatures would get it a meaningful debate.
Top shelf publishers are firing up the printing presses
The best thing that could happen to the UK at the moment is a Maximilien Robespierre character rising through politics….. and acting in a similar fashion….
The rot runs deap on all sides…
Yeah, we did it with the general election. It took them longer to read a petition. The answer was straight “no it’s not a time for it” done, under the carpet.
Petitions never work. They can (and will) just go “no fuck off, we’re not changing it”.
We can only vote on the things they *let* us vote on. We do not live in a democracy. It’s just an illusion to keep us compliant
They won’t listen. It’s their rules or be damned with you nowadays
Oh hooray a debate on the online safety act. Woo hoo.
I’m sure it’ll go completely different from the many debates it had already before being passed.
Now watch them tell us to fuck off
You’re kidding yourselves if you think they’ll change it.
Is it weird that the Lib Dems and the Greens are so quiet about this?
Even Reform should have something to day, surely?
Nothing will change because going against it is political suicide.
Think about the headlines people will make about a politician who goes against it. Even though it’s complete bs, they won’t do it because of the backlash.
“100 thousand gooners take on UK Government”
/s obviously
People keep talking about the pr0ns but I’m locked out of my Discord and my own Reddit account. Yes, I can just use a VPN but it’s the principle of it.
Who do the government think they are telling me I need their permission to allow me, a full time working, tax paying adult, to talk to my own friends and what im allowed to see.
I am very disappointed in my fellow countrymen today.
“Think of the children!” As we continue to completely destroy this country, you will never own a house, you will never receive a pension, you will work till you’re 90, you will be paying off student loans your whole life, we don’t know to how to regulate AI so most of you won’t be able to get a job, social media is completely crippling your minds and we refuse to address it, we don’t know how to help you with being brought up with technology because we never dealt with it when we were kids.
But yea we are supposed to believe that the government arbitrarily deciding what is appropriate for the British people to view online is somehow in the best interests of children, give me a fucking break. Massive overreach from the government, outsourcing to companies abroad with no guarantee of data being secure? Fuck off.
Ooh, a petition! Please show me a petition that ended up repealing an Act of Parliament.
Turn your vpns off when you sign the petition or your vote gets ignored! You can download the vote data on that page and see round 7,000 votes are from different countries lol
I absolutely refuse to follow this, it’s a ridiculous invasion of privacy, just because some shite parents can’t properly limit their kids internet access.
Its good to see, but its meaningless. Its VPN time.
People need to stop focusing on this as just being about porn or gooners. I agree there needs to be something to stop kids accessing porn but that should be mostly on educating parents to put correct internet safety measures and ensure their child is safe online.
The bigger issue is that this can very easily be interpreted as another human rights issue tied closely to all the other human rights offences the British government have committed through mass surveillance.
This is authoritarianism plain and simple, just to be clear any news or community marked NSFW now needs you to associate a face with your online activities. It would be so easy to abuse as a system to track who sees what, with the recent crackdown on protest groups I think it is a matter of time.
It’ll go to parliament, “any in favour of undoing the act?” Silence.. “next subject” and done.. these petitions mean nothing unfortunately
