Ostend is a hidden gem imo

  1. I would say it is not as bad as people say, but would probably not call it a hidden gem.

  2. it used to literaly be know as “reine des plages”

  3. It has it’s qualities, the sea being the main one of course. Sadly the city also has become a playground for property developers who make it a contest to raise a new ugly apartment tower on a weekly basis.

  4. Wait for the next sunny week-end and tell me if it is still hidden and still a gem.

  5. Lived there when I was young. Sadly over the years it has lost its charm due to certain circumstances

  6. Should’ve said that its not getting enough attention. I find Bruges and some small cities too overrated

  7. Since at least the 80 ties it has been a place that draws in the lowest of the low soft white underbelly of French and belgian society. Do some research

  8. Sea, beach, and average Belgian city next to the beach.

  9. Does Belgium need to get back to its roots? Not hearing the love

  10. The first and last time I swam in Ostend, a turd was swimming with me.

  11. Disagree. All concrete and then just sand. Plus, if I am not mistaken, there is a statu of Leopold 2 right next to the beach. Guy is an utter embarrassment.

  12. No picture of the perfect gem that is the concrete jungle? Belgian coast is disgusting, just concrete buildings about as nice as commie blocks everywhere.

  13. I get what this post means but its the largest city on the Belgian cost and one of the largest cores in West-Flanders. Its not really hidden, although I can agree that its a bit of a gem. Not as grand as Ghent or Bruges imo but still a smaller gem with its beautifull and iconic locations.
