You could see the “in group” / “out group” devide play out in her head in real time. “Immigrants are in the out group so are bad, parents are in group and are good, therefore cannot be immigrants”
So, the thing that bothers me most about that video isn’t even that they could find twenty racist assholes who were pissing themselves to announce to the world just how racist they were, but that they actually found enough that they could pick some hot ones.

I have an uncle who is full MAGA, pro-ICE, etc.
When his parents (my grandparents) arrived in the US, they overstayed their visas and were in the country illegally for a pretty good stretch of time before they naturalized.
But they were white and it was the 50’s, so, according to my uncle, that was “different”

I always found it funny how a certain demographic of people are allowed to control the nation’s narrative. All the while they fuck up progress to a successful experiment with their greed and corruption.
When I watched it felt like her saying her parents were immigrants was an off the cuff lie to be sympathetic.
Then she froze up the minute she was pressed on it.
My MAGA step-brother actually brags on his Irish ancestry and his relatives who all moved to New York in late 1870s (IIRC).
The lengths he goes to justify how his ancestors were ok to immigrate is ridiculous.
He can’t/won’t make the cognitive leap.
I have no idea exactly how my ancestors got here. All I really know is that all four of my grandparents have English surnames (Baldwin, Pearson, Goodwin and Lipscomb).
Beyond that I don’t know. Nor do I care.
So my dad’s parents both immigrated to the US from Europe when they were children. My dad has birthright citizenship. He just won’t make the connection that if they pass the bullshit they’re trying to he’s in just as much jeopardy as the dark skinned people he hates so much.
My family came here legally

She refers to them as immigrants and as US citizens, but doesn’t describe them as Americans at any point.
