The Cyprus Red Cross said Saturday it is temporarily suspending the collection of essential items for victims of the recent wildfires in the Limassol mountains after an outpouring of public donations exceeded its processing capacity.

In a statement, the humanitarian organization thanked the public for its “immediate and moving response” to calls for aid following the devastating fires, which left widespread damage in the mountainous region.

“The generosity of the public has once again served as a shining example of solidarity and humanity,” the group said.

The Red Cross said the volume of items collected has made it difficult to continue receiving, sorting and dispatching aid simultaneously. The organization will halt further collections until it can distribute the supplies already gathered to affected residents.

Officials said updates will be issued when donations can resume.
