France’s Elena Colas and Great Britain’s Evan McPhillips captured the all-around titles and led their countries to five golds each in the gymnastics competition at the European Youth Olympic Festival that ended Saturday in Osijek, Croatia.
France earned gold in five of the six girls’ finals, while Great Britain won five of the eight boys’ finals and France took the mixed team final.
Colas scored 53.75 to earn the girls’ all-around gold over Slovakia’s Lucia Piliarova (51.95), who claimed silver, and Romania’s Alexia Blanaru (51.35), who took bronze.
The 15-year-old Colas, a native of Chambray-Lès-Tours, won all-around gold, tied for gold on uneven bars and took bronze on vault at last year’s Junior European Championships in Rimini. Earlier this year she won the junior all-around title at the International Gymnix competition in Montreal and captured her second consecutive all-around gold at the French Junior Championships.
By a margin of just 0.10, McPhillips won the boys’ all-around (78.60), ahead of silver medalist Ivan Rigon of Italy (78.50) and bronze medalist Uzair Chowdhury of Great Britain (77.45).
McPhillips, a 17-year-old native of Bolton, England, trains at City of Manchester Institute of Gymnastics. He was a member of the gold medal-winning British team at last year’s Junior European Championships in Rimini. McPhillips placed second all-around in the Under 18 division at the 2024 and 2025 British Championships, and first all-around in the Under 18 division at the 2025 English Championships.
