  1. Every terrible mistake I have ever made has been under the influence of alcohol.

  2. Wonderful waste of money. Was real effective with cigarettes’ and gambling wasn’t it?

  3. But people who don’t drink enough are already being blamed for pub closures and the death of the night out.

The only people that still drink are the ones that _really_ want to.

  4. Yeah because obviously this worked so well with cigarettes, what a waste of money.

  5. What would work is putting the nutritional information on the label, like every other product sold in the UK. People should see how many calories and how much sugar is in a can of cider.

  6. Bloody government trying to keep people healthy, someone should start a petition

  7. For people saying ‘waste of money’ and ‘doesn’t work’, the evidence is that at least with cigarettes warnings it increases people’s awareness of the risks, even teaching them a few they didn’t know about.

Reduced the purchases in those with less nicotine dependence

    and so on.

Never underestimate how uneducated a large chunk of the population are.

So for an absolute minimal cost, there will be an increase in population health. Just like when we banned advertising with characters likely to appeal to children – and yes, people got upset about that as well as if losing the Hofmeister bear was a national tragedy.

  8. Problem here is the government have no idea which path they want to take so keep going back and forth. Do they want to reduce alcohol consumption? Do they want to change UK drinking culture? Do they want to help the pubs as the original and oldest third space? Do they not think further than tomorrow?

  9. I’m fine with it, and the nutrition labels too. Now decrease the taxes on it and we’re cooking.

  10. I’d be up for mandatory: “WARNING: this nondescript pint of keg beer in a nondescript pub in a nondescript suburb costs £7-flipping-20!?!?!”
