GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – The Green Bay public school board touched on the upcoming release of more than $5 billion in frozen public education funding.
The Trump administration made that announcement just last week after withholding more than $6.5 billion, ahead of the school year.
The White House previously released a total of $1.3 billion to help support summer and after-school programs.
As we’ve reported, the district awaited the release of around $3.4 million in Title funds they expected to receive at the beginning of July.
On Monday, Action 2 News spoke with district leaders about what it means to have that money returned.
“I’m a little nervous about the uncertainty that that presented. Could this happen again? So that part makes me nervous, but for now we will move forward knowing that those title funds are coming to our district, as intended to support our families, and we have a state budget now that we can work with,” Superintendent Vicki Bayer said.
The district is expected to receive those funds this week.
