Slovenia and France have provided North Macedonia with a total of 100 firefighters and special vehicles to help extinguish the fires.
The Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Stojanče Angelov, said that authorities are considering the possibility of receiving aid from Slovenia and France.
“Regarding the European Union (EU) Civil Protection Mechanism, we recently received an offer from Slovenia to send us a team of 50 firefighters with special vehicles. We also have information from France that they want to send us a team with a similar number of firefighters with special vehicles to extinguish forest fires. We are considering this possibility, we will decide later how we will act,” Angelov said.
He also said that 15 fires have been registered in Macedonia today, of which nine are still active and six have been brought under control.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski previously stated that the EU Civil Protection Mechanism was activated a few days ago, but that no one has planes available to send to help because there are hotbeds of fire all over Europe.
Mickoski also said that all of Macedonia’s capacities are engaged in extinguishing the fire and that the situation is under control.
