In a continuously evolving medical market, George Peltecu – a serial healthcare entrepreneur – proposes a unique model for scaling IVF clinics, based on genuine partnerships with key doctors who become co-shareholders in sustainable and innovative medical projects. His founded clinic represents the largest greenfield investment in an IVF clinic in Romania, with a budget of €3 million, significantly above the market average of €1–2 million.
Umana Fertility’s strategy includes geographic expansion through a decentralized model, aiming to become the reference clinic for low-prognosis infertility cases, targeting the highest success rate in this category. To support this trajectory, Umana Fertility is seeking a valuation of over €15 million in the next two years and plans to attract a minority private equity investment.
In the last 15 years, the private healthcare sector in Romania has grown at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16%, attracting both local and international capital. In vitro fertilization is one of the medical niches with significant growth potential: 1 in 5 couples of reproductive age face fertility issues, creating a market of approximately 800,000 potential patients.
George Peltecu positions Umana Fertility as the first local player with the potential to consolidate the market using its own capital, offering entrepreneurial doctors an alternative to being acquired by international groups. The proposed model is based on autonomy, co-shareholding, and meritocracy: actively involved doctors can become partners in projects, influence medical practice, and contribute to building a transparent, democratic, and high-performing system. Thus, Umana Fertility redefines doctors’ expectations in large networks, where they significantly contribute to revenues but do not share in the business’s success.
Inspired by private equity consolidation strategies in Central Europe and the Mediterranean, Peltecu adapts this “buy and build” model to local market realities using his own capital from a previous exit. His approach focuses on decentralized, sustainable growth.
He forms strategic partnerships with infertility specialists, identifying entrepreneurial potential and directly investing in their development – whether by launching greenfield clinics, expanding outpatient facilities into fully functional IVF centers, or investing in existing clinics that have reached growth limits under their current operating models.
“Umana Fertility aims to operate like a venture capital fund dedicated to entrepreneurial doctors, offering not only financing but also strategic support, operational expertise, brand building, and multidisciplinary teams, particularly in embryology – a field where Romania faces a severe shortage of qualified personnel.”— George Peltecu, Founder and Majority Shareholder, Umana Fertility
Currently, the company’s board already includes three doctors and a senior embryologist as shareholders. Their involvement is not symbolic – they contribute to strategic decisions, training new specialists, and attracting patients.
“I want to create an ecosystem where patients, doctors, and investors are all respected and aligned within a fair and efficient structure. Most IVF clinics in Romania were founded by doctors, who by the nature of their profession tend to exercise total control over decisions, greatly minimizing other doctors’ autonomy. We aim to change this model.” — adds George.
In the first six months of 2025, Umana Fertility achieved a turnover of €2 million and estimates total annual revenues exceeding €4 million. Additionally, new strategic projects will be announced in the second half of the year to support accelerated growth.
This success builds on a promising start in 2024 when, within just 10 months of operation, Umana Fertility became a key player in Romania’s fertility market, with over 10,000 appointments, 442 IVF procedures, and 101 intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedures.
With state-of-the-art equipment and a premium design, Umana Fertility aims to offer patients not only medical expertise but also an authentic human experience. Holding over 70% market share and having biopsied more than 1,500 embryos in the last 12 months, the clinic leads the local market in embryo genetic testing, an advanced procedure that increases pregnancy chances, especially among women of advanced reproductive age and low ovarian reserve.
George Peltecu is an emerging and influential voice in Romanian medical entrepreneurship. With solid experience in management consulting and the pharmaceutical industry, he previously founded Nativia – Bucharest’s largest pregnancy monitoring clinic, acquired by the Regina Maria network in 2023 – and is an associate and investor in Cronos Med, Romania’s leading aesthetic medicine network, with annual revenues exceeding €8 million.
He began his career in management consulting, coordinating strategic projects for top pharma companies. One notable achievement was developing an innovative system for the direct delivery of oncology drugs to hospitals, which helped resolve Romania’s chemotherapy crisis between 2015–2017. Later, at Roche, he introduced the most advanced NGS-based oncology genetic testing panel to the local market, providing advanced-stage cancer patients with personalized treatment options.
George Peltecu holds an MBA from Georgetown University, and all his projects share a clear mission: improving access to safe, patient-centered, high-quality medical services. With Umana Fertility, he aims to set a new standard in reproductive medicine based on key doctors’ professional autonomy, co-investment, and medical excellence.
