LALBC News:

The Los Alamos Local Business Coalition (“Coalition”) invites public review and input on its “Professional Services Assistance” idea, a proposal aimed at boosting the economic vitality of Los Alamos County by providing local businesses with easier access to timely, experienced professional services important for compliance with Los Alamos County requirements. This initiative is one of six forward-thinking ideas detailed in the newly released “Coalition Idea Book,” now available as a PDF on the Coalition website

The “Professional Services Assistance Initiative” seeks to foster a stronger local economy by:

Providing Easier Access to Vetted Professionals: It will provide easier access to timely, experienced professional services that are crucial for compliance with County requirements. Key categories to consider include architectural/engineering, legal, and CPA services.
Streamlining Service Engagement: The plan involves contracting a third-party business support organization to recruit and qualify stable professional service providers willing to commit to service standards and reasonable pricing, then serve as a clearinghouse to match local businesses with appropriate service providers.
Offering Financial Assistance: While businesses would pay for services according to agreed pricing, the third-party contract could include “scholarship” type funding to financially assist businesses as appropriate.
Enhancing Business Stability and Compliance: This initiative will result in more efficient matching of businesses with capable professional services, address community concerns, increase the retention and survivability of existing businesses, and provide an easier path to compliance with County requirements.

“We believe that by providing local businesses with streamlined access to essential professional services, we can significantly reduce their operational burdens, improve compliance, and foster a more stable and thriving economic environment,” said a spokesperson for the Coalition. “This initiative is about building a more resilient and sustainable local economy for everyone”.

The “Professional Services Assistance Initiative,” idea along with other innovative concepts like the “Storefront Recapture” and “Local Business Billboard Collective,” were generated through extensive community engagement and forums held since February 2025. These ideas are designed to address the top challenges facing the Los Alamos business environment, including affordable commercial space, complex and opaque regulatory environments, workforce shortages and housing costs, and the perceived lack of support and access to funding for local businesses.

The Coalition encourages all citizens, business owners, and community stakeholders to review the complete set of ideas presented in the “Coalition Idea Book” on our website. Your feedback and engagement on the ideas are invited as we work together to build a more prosperous Los Alamos.
