The Vintgar Gorge is a natural paradise located in the Triglav National Park, about 2 and a half miles (4 kilometers) from the popular Lake Bled. It’s a popular attraction in Slovenia today, and it was discovered by chance in 1891 during an expedition by the mayor of the village and a photographer. The river Radovna carved the gorge out over time with its powerful flow. The gorge is about a mile long with a depth of up to 820 feet (250 meters) in some places. At the end of the gorge is the Šum waterfall, which is almost 52 feet (16 meters) high.
Tourists visit the Vintgar Gorge not only for the wonderful scenery formed by the wild river but also for its lush vegetation and unique rock formations. Another great attraction of the Vintgar Gorge is its easy accessibility and unpretentiousness. The walk is therefore suitable for families with small children. The path leads along wooden walkways and bridges, from which you can safely admire the breathtaking creations that nature itself is responsible for.
