French plan to recognise Palestinian state hopes to bring ‘lasting peace’ • FRANCE 24 English

As Gazins put up a daily fight to stay alive amid famine and continued Israeli air strikes, Emanuel Mron addressed a letter to the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmud Abbas. The letter underscores that Abbas condemned the October 7th terrorist attacks, called for the immediate release of hostages, and advocated the disarmament of Hamas. The French president says France will proceed with the full recognition of Palestine as a state, an announcement welcomed in the streets of Ramla in the occupied West Bank. It’s a very important step that we’ve been waiting a long time for. We thank the French president for this decision and we hope this will translate into concrete actions. We hope that this recognition will put an end to killings in Gaza and lead to the recognition of Palestine by other European countries and the world. The decision has been met with sharp words from Israel with Prime Minister Benamin Netanyahu saying such a decision encourages terrorism. Meanwhile, its staunch ally, the US says this reckless decision only serves Hamas propaganda and sets back peace. It is a slap in the face to the victims of October 7th. More than 140 countries already recognize Palestine as a state, including EU Nation Spain. But France will be the first G7 nation and the first permanent member of the UN Security Council to do so. Paris says it hopes other countries will follow suit to exert pressure on Israel.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio blasted French President Emmanuel Macron decision to recognise a Palestinian state as “reckless” while Saudi Arabia described it as “historic” as world reactions to the plan poured in ahead of the UN General Assembly meeting in September. France24 Jennie Shin reports.

  1. Who is france to choose 😢😮😮, france is under America 😢😮😮😮 they have no vioce . Weapons are Power france don't have that . Birds of the same weather flocks together 😢😮😮😢😢

  2. Wrong. France is the third of the 5 permanent members of the UN security council to recognize Palestine, NOT "the first", only the UK and the US have not yet done so (but both have officially made numerous statements in support of doing so at "the right time").

  3. HOW can you get peace when " hamas " still exist , still have HOSTAGES , still demand the release of other terrorists….
CAN YOU REALLY TRUST THESE PEOPLE?????
they allow the cycle of death to continue …..and yet the remaining there DO NOTHING ….they far OUTNUMBER hamas, WHY DON'T THEY UNITE????

  4. Perhaps I'm mistaken but recognition of a Palestinian state seems to be symbolic. Following recognition, what specific steps will be taken to ensure a just & lasting peace between Israel & any future Palestinian state? Will Israel cooperate? What steps will France take if Israel & the US resist?

  5. It will not help them. The mindsets already set in, recognizing won't solve the problem. France should educate instead of trying to solve the matters. France also have its own prob with migrants from middles east.

  6. If you staarve 2 million people with 1 million lovely children and tens of thousands of sweeet babies, you are a monster.
    Without doubt.
