Heavy rain to follow heatwave in northern, central Greece on Thursday

Following the recent heatwave, a marked change in weather is expected across northern and central Greece on Thursday, bringing a temporary but intense spell of rainfall.

From the morning hours until late at night, the region will face locally strong rain and thunderstorms, with the potential for localized hail and very strong winds.

According to an emergency bulletin issued by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), heavy rain and storms are forecast for central and eastern Macedonia from early in the day until late at night.

The western Macedonian region and mountainous and semi-mountainous parts of Epirus, in the northwest, are expected to be affected around midday Thursday and into the afternoon.

In Thrace, northeastern Greece, storms are anticipated from midday until the evening hours on Thursday.

The Sporades will likely see heavy rain on Thursday from morning until early afternoon, while in Thessaly and other parts of the central mainland, conditions will deteriorate from mid-morning until early evening.
