  1. I can see it now, “Eat more humans” campaign kicking off

  2. Introduced by Rick Scott (R-Fl), in case anyone was wondering.

  3. How did we get here? He makes more money than me, has better health insurance. We are paying for him to do this. I am sad.

  4. Could we be overfishing? No, it’s the sharks who are wrong.

  5. This is a parody, right? The sharks (Republicans) ARE eating the fish (the public they are suppose to serve).

  6. This is the stupidest thing I’ve heard from this government today.

  7. That… That is the dumbest true thing I’ve read today. So far…

  8. I had no idea the ocean(s) was part of their gerrymandering 😱😱

  9. It’s not a licence to cull, there isn’t an overpopulation of sharks. It’s a licence to slaughter sharks. This is fucked up. Maybe there’d be more fish if we weren’t, I don’t know, overfishing and bottom trawling?

  10. You know, it would probably be more effective if you just threw the Senate committee directly at the sharks.

  11. Sharks are not the predators we should be concerned with.

  12. Teehee, I’m sure there’s no need for these apex predators!

…every day a new nadir of ignorance and cruelty.

  13. Sponsored by Rick Scott, so it’s going to be a hellmouth. The reason behind the bill is “shark depredation.” This means, specifically, when anglers are fishing and the sharks come and take a bite out of the catch before the angler gets it out of the water. Where does this happen most often? Florida Keys area.

  14. Imagine if they had laser beams on their freaking foreheads. The problem would be much worse.

  15. Time to get them in rehabilitation “fish are friends not food”

  16. Maybe they should introduce a bill to stop sparrows eating the grain in the fields too.

  17. Have we considered sending ice agents to stop them? Or perhaps tariffs?

  18. The sharks! They’re eating the fish, they’re eating the people and the nets! They’re eating everything I tell you!

  19. here’s an email template to send to your senators!

Subject: Oppose S.2314 and Protect Our Sharks

    Dear Senator [Last Name],

I’m writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to oppose Senate Bill S.2314, which threatens hard-won protections for sharks — a keystone species critical to ocean health.

As you may know, shark finning is an especially brutal practice. Sharks are caught, their fins are cut off, and the incapacitated animals are thrown back into the ocean to die. This is not only cruel but ecologically devastating. Sharks maintain balance in marine ecosystems, and their rapid decline has already caused measurable damage to ocean biodiversity.

S.2314 would undermine existing shark fin bans by opening loopholes for the sale and trade of shark fins in the U.S., under the guise of economic or cultural arguments that ignore the reality of dwindling shark populations. The United States should lead by example in ending this trade, not take a step backward.

Please protect our oceans by opposing S.2314 and supporting stronger shark conservation measures. I urge you to defend the full ban on shark fin trade and advocate for sustainable ocean policy.

Thank you for your time and your service.

    Sincerely,
    [Your Full Name]

  20. Peak Stupidity.. yes why don’t they just all starve the poor sharks to death. What next, how to stop humans from breathing air?

  21. We humans are the worst of the worst. Sharks swims in South Africa, boats dangle fish to attract sharks for shark watching. Sharks swims in Florida, boats dangle fish NOT to attract sharks. Damn it. Least we can do is to put up a sign telling the shark which is which.

  22. This government has done absolutely nothing useful. What an incredible waste of time and money.

  23. This is very disheartening. I hope many individual states will follow hawaiis lead to protect sharks and ignore this federal government.

  24. Will this use of my taxpayer dollars make America great again?

  25. So, this is what gets me. Trump just canceled this Biden initiative of culling the barred owl program in the Northwest by cutting the grants that funded it. Of course, one of the main ‘reasons’ of the cuts was the costs.(Coincidentally or maybe not so coincidentally, most of that money would have gone to the Indigenous population in those areas.) NOW all of a sudden they want to have a shark study which will undoubtedly lead to mass a program to limit the amount of sharks by killing them. What else are they gonna recommend? Sending a strongly worded letter? This is also an interesting little tidbit in the article.

    >The task force also fails to include representation from Indigenous, tribal and native people, even though sharks are considered sacred to some.

They are actively fucking over the Indigenous people in our country under the guise of fiscal responsibility and ‘concern’ for the environment. It’s disgusting.

  26. This is the dumbest attempt to distract from the scandal surrounding the Epstein-Trump pedophile ring. Release the files!

  27. Aren’t all these people supposed to be concerned with government waste??

“We need to cut government inefficiency and waste.”

“Let’s fund a study to try and stop sharks from being sharks.”

  28. Could the windmills be in any way responsible? Asking for a friend.

  29. Bad headline, this is a bill to legalize and fund extinction efforts with taxpayer money.

Headlines like this are designed to make a particular party or the government overall look incredibly stupid. With a headline like this, how many people would actually read the content instead of rolling their eyes at the title and keep scrolling?

Really, the goal of this headline is to bury the lede. And in reading these comments, it worked.
