The Brazilian supreme court is so widely different than the US Supreme Court in how much free range it gives judges.
De Moraes set a fine of about $9,000 USD per day for any Brazilian accessing Twitter/X with a VPN.
He also has sentenced a lot of political opponents and critics to what i would call pretty extreme sentences (10 years in prison).
Brazilian courts can do as they wish in Brazil and we can sanction de Moraes. I don’t see too much of an issue here
Its surprising to see the downfall of american democracy in such a short period of time, kudos to everyone involved in electing mr annoying orange
A reminder from April: “The Witch Hunt against Marine Le Pen is another example of European Leftists using Lawfare to silence Free Speech, and censor their Political Opponent, this time going so far as to put that Opponent in prison,” said Trump.
This is nothing new, just the emperor of the world trying to influence judges from all over the world in order to push the far-right into power.
Smart move from Trump. We need their dictator back in office to handicap BRICs nations.
We uses to do this all the time back in the day. Kept us strong
It’s crazy to see Bolsonaro fans defending this shitty sanction.
Alexandre de Moraes is doing what the Supreme Justice should have done in the US. Also, all his decisions are widely supported by the Supreme Court, besides the two guys appointed by Bolsonaro and another Bolsonaro bootlicker.
It’s a shame that the US does this unilaterally against a Supreme Justice member of another country.
Brazil is doing the right thing so it’s not surprising America opposes it.
Highly recommend the documentary “Apocalypse in the Tropics” which is now on Netflix. It follows Brazilian politics over the past decade and the rise and presidency of Bolsonaro, his connections with Brazilian Christian evangelicals, and their connections and origins with American evangelicals. Bolsonaro and Trump are literally two peas in a pod. The parallels between current American and Brazilian politics are really scary. They (Trump, Bolsonaro and their supporters) very much see their situation as a literal war between good and evil, where of course they are the good ones. And therefore, use of violence, corruption, undermining democracy are all acceptable means in war. The ends wholly justify the means to them. They can and will use whatever methods they can to defeat “leftist (quotations because that is anyone who does fully align with their worldview and has absolute loyalty to their movement).
As a Brazilian, I affirm that it was correct, Alexandre de Moraes went beyond the law of our country and because he is in the highest instance he cannot suffer legal consequences.
