Modus operandi of mobile phone companies in CH

  1. Also them:
    Customer call : hi
Them: yes we can give you 40% discount

  2. loyalty to service providers is just a stupid concept anyway

  3. it always reminds me of the south park “customer service” with the little nipple flaps.

mobile phone companies in switzerland are predatory. there are actually people on reddit saying swisscom has good customer service, that’s why you pay more. lol. until you have an actual problem.

we need better customer protection. but a lot of swiss people have the mentality that it’s your own fault if you don’t read the fine print in detail, not the shitty company’s that is being unethical.

  4. Also home Internet and TV providers (usually the same companies).

Tip to save money: as soon as your lockup period ends, call them and threaten to go to competition. They will immediately offer you a better price. Say no thanks. Watch them offer you an even better price. Profit.

  5. That is everywhere in telecom. They know what they are doing. Churn for these services is usually low and there are no incentives to existing customers because of that. Getting a new customer is the biggest challenge in a commodity market with 99% penetration. If we would hop more often from provider to provider, you might see some loyalty program.

  6. If you complain about Switzerland, it is probably because you have not lived in other places like Spain. There most of the time it goes like this:

    – hi, I am leaving to the competition
    – but you have 2 years left in your contract, you came to us last month!
    – I don’t care, the competition will pay the penalty for me
    – how much do they give you?
    – 20% discount, Netflix and the football until next year
    – ok, we can do 10% more and add Amazon prime

They can also say no, but then you go to the competition because they pay the penalty for you. It is a matter of how many times you want to do this and how much effort you can put.

If you don’t do this you will pay 2x and 3x the price because they just assume you do this I guess.

  7. I wanted to cancel my Salt subscription because they presented it as a prepayed sim card, not an actual contract. When I told them I want to cancel they said, sure. If you pay all remaining 16 months in advance. Like, why would I pay in advance and be left without the service?
The in March they increased the price with around 2chf, and now they charge 1chf of you want to pay via card online!!
You can pay via bank transfer, but only from a Swiss bank account. Predatores.

  8. Call them, tell them that you are a happy ex-customer, change to their “low cost” brand or any other alternative. They eventually will give you even better price then for new customers (happened to me with sunrise)…

  9. Common practice in all industries I’m afraid. It nowadays pays off to cancel your subscription and then get offered a way better deal than simply keep your subscription.

  10. The telco industry cut prices so hard in the fight over new customers that they have to squeeze every rappen out of existing customers to avoid going bust.

  11. I’m currently on a ongoing support case with Galaxus Mobile because I can’t do outgoing calls with my smartphone. I’ve been at it for about 2 weeks now, unable to do any outgoing calls, a basic function of a mobile contract…
They didn’t even offer any help nor any compensation. Their solution is for me to get another phone or change to their competitors.
    What a joke…

  12. Boggles my mind, why no company goes “hey that our price for now, but the longer you stay, the less you pay.”

  13. For for those who commented that one needs to call and ask for a discount. I literally did this with green Internet provider after I learned that Galaxus is cheaper and faster. I explicitly told them that I’ll switch if hey don’t match galaxus price. And from my point of view, it was a good offer to my previous Internet provider because I gave them a chance to keep me as a customer for worse service but they neither matched and nor offered a a discount and so currently I’m a happy Galaxus Internet subscriber. The service is great. I actually love this company and every year order more and more stuff from it

  14. Swisscom are actually pretty good at extending discounts to existing loyal customers.
I’ve seen these deals a few times, realized my family was not locked up in our current contract, and just called and asked for the discount and gotten it. No questions asked.

I think the main thing is to not be in a lock-in period of a contract, which, usually is initiated by a discount..

  15. I have been with Swisscom for a long time and have twice received unsolicited calls from them with offers that were significantly better than what I was locked into at the time. It could be that they no longer do this, but so far I have no complaints.
