RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT)—High Noon, the company that makes spiked seltzers, has issued a recall. It claims that a packaging mix-up led to some of its vodka drinks mistakenly ending up in Celsius energy drink cans.
The fastest way to tell if it is one of the recalled batches is by checking the top.
Black is the standard lid color for the energy drink can, so if yours is silver, it probably has vodka inside.
Dylan Cook is a self-described longtime Celsius drinker.
“Yeah, I need these to keep my day going,” Cook said.
He said his least favorite is the Celsius Astro Vibe Sparking Blue Razz flavor.
“So no vodka in this one? Oh bummer,” Cook laughed as he held up a different Celsius drink that he had just purchased from 7-Eleven in Carytown.
Celsius and High Noon are made by different companies, but share the same packaging supplier.
The recall was triggered when High Noon was mistakenly sent empty Celsius cans.
Those cans were filled with vodka seltzer and placed in two production batches of “High Noon Beach Variety 12-packs.”
They were then shipped to retailers in Virginia and other states between July 21 and 23.
The recalled High Noon packs include the retail code UPC 085000040065 along with the following lot codes:
L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00
The Celsius cans include the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1 along with lot codes:
L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11
So far, the FDA says there are no reports of anyone getting sick from the mix-up.
But there are still concerns about alcohol accidentally getting into the hands of minors.
“I mean, it’s definitely a bad screw up. That’s not good. I’m an adult, so it affects me less, but yeah, that’s not great,” Cook said.
But even for adults, it could be dangerous not knowing what you are consuming, especially for anyone driving or with a medical condition.
“I don’t drink alcohol like that, so yeah, I would not be happy about that,” Carytown shopper Judy Butler said. “But [if you drink one] without even knowing, and say ‘Hey, I’m a little off, what’s going on?’ And it could be you drank something and didn’t know that alcohol was in it.”
