Italian citizens and businesses boycott Israeli products as war in Gaza rages on • FRANCE 24

At first glance, this looks like an ordinary pharmacy like many others. And yet, they are making a statement, a political one. In response to the attacks in Gaza, all Israeli products have been withdrawn from sale. This affects self-service products that use magnesium, potassium, and also products for legs and sore throats. Reactions from the cleantel are divided. I doubt Netanyahu will change his mind because of what’s going on here. It’s a way for us to show our position and to express our point of view. It’s a drop in the ocean, but it’s important. Seven other localarmacies are participating in the boycott in the district of Cesto Furantino about 10 km from Florence. This initiative was launched by the town’s mayor. Here we have a local council decision. We are discontinuing all institutional relations with the Israeli government and with Israeli organizations and have given a mandate to all businesses linked to our local council to boycott Israeli companies. We want these companies to put pressure on their government so that international law and human rights are respected. Campaigns like this one are becoming more frequent. 350 supermarkets in eight Italian regions, members of the largest consumer cooperative in Europe, have also banned Israeli products. In an official statement, they announced, “We cannot remain indifferent to the violence tearing the Gaza Strip apart.” The chain is now offering Palestinian-made products such as the Gaza Cola, whose profits go to helping the Gazin population, a drink that is becoming more and more popular in Italy. It’s just a can of cola, but it’s very important because unacceptable crimes are being committed in the Palestinian territories against civilians who haven’t done anything wrong. But the marketing of Gaza Cola is not welcomed by all. This shop in the south of Rome was subjected to a wave of online abuse. The manager says she’s the victim of a hate campaign. Proof that the Palestinian question remains divisive in Italy.

A number of Italian citizens and businesses are taking a stand against the ongoing attacks in Gaza by choosing to boycott all Israeli products. Italians are divided: some say that boycotting products will not end the suffering of Gazans, while others believe that even a small drop in the ocean can make a difference. Report by FRANCE 24 correspondent in Italy, Natalia Mendoza – with Tommaso Marro and Charlotte Davan Wetton.

  3. And why don’t we do the same with other things where politics causes us problems? Hopefully, Gaza is an example that when we want to, we can influence everything. Many of these products, by the way, are harmful to our health. We should boycott them primarily for our own protection.

  4. Lets type a minimum of nine words of support comments guys (without emojis, hashtags and numbers i guess) please. You can copy and share that comment too if you want too tho.
