I personally say it's so much better, gone is the space heater we had for an engine, especially in the Boris buses, and the annoying engine vibrating the bus.
For once I actually want to get on a bus.

Is there a downside?
It’s a good thing.
Good luck to them, they should have the freedom to go whatever way they wish without fear or judgement.
As long as they have aircon I don’t care. I’m sick to death by heatstroke in the summer from a 10 minute journey
The quicker they can get rid of all of the old diesel buses the better, the noise of some of these older buses outside my window is horrendous.
No more revving of engines at bus stations or clouds of fumes on pull away on fast routes like the 66.
Though I will miss the DB300 (Arriva London DW) thr most when they go from the 123 and 158.
Apparently new electric buses will be on the 230 today…
We voted for a proper Brexit not this woke nonsene
Great cause those awful buses that are clearly fucked and puking out white smoke that on a still day is horrific for your lungs, but if you complain it was passed with a clean bill of health, this despite a cloud of white diesel fumes following it.
I prefer acoustic buses.
Glad they’ve gone down that route. I guess they can’t be far off the entire fleet being electric?
I do admit I’m going to miss some of those engine noises, especially on the Envio 400’s. When you heard the gearbox kickdown, you knew the bus driver was on one.
As long as it arrives on time.
Bad for the environment 🤔

Some passionate graphic design going on here.
If you live on a main road, I am sure this would be a great change. I grew up on a main road as a kid and the buses were so noisy. The smell of diesel on our high roads can be awful.
Silence and clean(er) air. Excellent.
I’m going to miss the pollution so much – extra vapes are needed
Cool

They weren’t electric already? Ouch. Thats embarrassing
I own an EV myself so I think it’s a good thing. Not actually been on any of the leccy buses yet.
I dread to think of future generations who might have fewer breathing problems.
Thank god really, both me and my parents live on a bus route so the lack of noise is a revelation!
I guess the only downside I’ve noticed is that they seem to be a bit more nippy which isn’t great if you’re standing and also makes me a little motion sick, but the drivers probably just need to get used to it.
Makes alot of sense. No juddering from the engine as you say, so a smoother ride.
And from a practical point of view buses are perfect to go electric – they don’t do any serious kind of miles (range), they return to the depot every night (charging) and they’ve got a long floorplan to fit batteries.
It’s great. Less noise, less street side air pollution, and buses are like the ideal use case for electric vehicles, known predictable usage patterns and going back to a specific location at regular intervals.
Yeah, you gotta be crazy to be agains them.
I have an added benefit: when picking up my daughter from school some of the buses in our route had been replaced, some not.
So every time we’re both rooting for the “fancy schmancy” bus to pick us up, and she’s always genuinely excited when it’s one of the new electrical buses.
So the two of us got a sweet memory out of it as well 🙂
When can we expect the battery powered planes?
> annoying engine vibrating the bus
Well now…
Great for London, though of course it offsets their multiple issues to be someone else’s problem.
The main builder of the buses – the Chinese giant BYD. (British company Alexander Dennis also assembles them, but currently looks in trouble & is closing assembly plants) relies on particularly dirty fossil fuel energy for its manufacturing and it’s huge 3rd world feed chain of mining, transport etc.
BVD also scored 2.7 or of 100 for their human rights practices, which at the time they were assessed (2020) was was the lowest score ever recorded for an international company – they made Nestlé look like the good guys.
Instances of forced/slave labour, no policies in place to protect landscapes, indigenous peoples and workers in their 3rd world supply chains, deliberate hiding or non-disclosure of data about those supply chains, and a complete lack of workforce safety at all stages was the norm.

I like electric buses in principle, it just sucks that other people halfway around the world are dying & living in misery & pollution in order for us to have them.
Ever been walking and the sound of a bus’ engine passes by your head 4 feet away and it sounds like a fire breathing dragon is screaming sweet nothings into your soul?
What I hate is the massive ads, but… is there any downside to being electric?
