Moldovan President Maia Sandu has issued a strong warning, stressing that Russia is actively preparing to interfere in the parliamentary elections to be held in September, in order to gain control over her country.
She stressed that this is a deliberate attempt by Moscow to influence the democratic process and establish its influence in Moldovan politics.
According to Sandu, the Kremlin is directly investing in political projects backed by fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, a controversial figure who has been embroiled in corruption scandals and is now trying to ensure that his supporters enter parliament. This would give Russia greater room to exert political influence in Moldova.
The Moldovan president also outlined the various methods Russia plans to use to manipulate the elections and destabilize the country, reports reuters.
These include bribery and vote buying, illegal financing through cryptocurrencies, and the organization of paid protests with the aim of creating social tensions and unrest.
In addition, she warned of the risk of cyberattacks on Moldova’s key infrastructure, which could cause major economic and social damage.
This warning comes at a time when the political situation in Moldova is extremely sensitive, due to external pressure and the various influences the country is experiencing from international actors.
Maia Sandu called on citizens and the international community to be vigilant and protect the integrity of the electoral process and the sovereignty of Moldova. /Telegraph/
