  3. I’ve never watched GB News but the quality of BBC’s journalism both on TV and in articles has plummeted over the years.

    When you read an old BBC article it’s shocking how detailed and thorough it is in comparison. There are so many examples now where the BBC omits random details (often important ones) for no reason.

  4. Some of the comments on the main UK sub, saying the channel is like Fox News and should be shut down.

    There’s a quote about free speech often cited in these situations….

    If people want to watch GBNEWS, let them. If not, that’s fine too.

  6. Figures seems off. I can’t read the article. I saw some reporting on them overtaking sky news for a month last year, but when I look at the ratings figures bbc is by far the biggest.

  8. GBNews, by its own admission, is not a “news” channel. It’s an opinion-based entertainment channel.

  13. This is the beginning of the end. If you think that is hyperbole, go look at the right wing media in America and see what it’s done to the Americans. GB News is nothing but a right-wing propaganda outlet. We are going down the same path as the Americans.

  18. I understand entirely why this upsets people; I’d choose the BBC over GB news any day. But when will people realise that the government doubling down on unpopular policies that no one voted for, and calling it “Geebeebies”, is actually harmful to your cause?

  22. Just to make it clear, which the Telegraph headline doesn’t (not hard to figure out why), these ratings are specifically for the BBC News channel. Across other BBC TV news coverage, such as BBC Breakfast, it’s not even close…

  25. This is a short lived phenomenon. I predict that linear tv will be gone by the end of the decade.

    What comes after that maybe worse (depending on the recommendation algorithm people choose to follow).

  26. Unfortunately people seem to want to tune in to hear the message they’re looking for, regardless of whether it’s true or not. If the BBC isn’t spewing constant news that chimes with their personal views on immigration, they’re seeking it from other sources who are willing to provide it.

    This is going to poison people against rationality. I’ve noticed it in my own family. People’s views are growing more hardline and they’re less willing to listen to different viewpoints. I make a good point and they just dismiss it without any actual counter argument.

  28. A lot of people here will judge and belittle GBNews viewers. And they’ll only hasten the transition away from the channels of the sneering metropolitan class (like the BBC).

    People are tired of having their legitimate concerns brushed off and ignored by the media and establishment politicians. There’s a lot going wrong in the UK at the moment, and the public are rightly looking for media channels who are unafraid of exposing it.

    The public decreasingly trust channels that push the establishment / globalist / collectivist / politically-correct narratives, because those narratives are self-evidently falling apart.

    GBN got higher viewer ratings than the channel “BBC NEWS” the one which is pure news and nothing else. not BBC1, 2 or 3

    I bought a Samsung a couple of years ago and if I accidentally go on Samsung plus, it defaults to GB News. No accident.

    Likewise I’m constantly getting fed GB News articles on social media. The right side of politics are always miles ahead of the left in media. And that’s how they’re successful.

  36. BBC recently has become clickbait ‘x story, click here to learn why’. I grew up abroad and the BBC was the most respected news provider in the world. Not any more.
