  1. These new laws suck, no doubt but lets not ignore this tidbit.

    >Prof Wachter said that the level of self-regulation afforded to tech companies in choosing how to comply with the Online Safety Act called for well-staffed moderation teams equipped with “time, resources, expertise and nuance” to effectively make decisions.

    >She also noted that many major social media companies, such as X and Meta, have slimmed down their moderation teams in recent years or dissolved them completely.

  2. Well…honestly, i understand this, even though i opposed the law.

The people who posted about Ukraine and Gaza regularly likely see themselves as a kind of activist-warrior fighting against “evil imperialist expansionist regime” (i.e Israel and Russia).

And like all online activists, it is likely that their rhetoric is laced with appeal to emotion and one-sided approach, which often lead to prejudice.

In the Gaza war, this is more clear with the pro-Hamas contrarians, but i’d argue that the pro-Ukraine people had lot of those types as well…a lot of those infact, honestly, many of the thing they did are openly Russophobic.

(cancelling 19th century russian musicians,…justify kiev city council banning russian arts, calling for expulsions of Russian in Ukraine under the guise of them being “colonialist”…etc)

But still, i think a much better way it to put a warning on them and ordered them to be downgraded in algorithm (basically like quarantining in Reddit).
