The world premiere of Chief of War was held in mid-July in O‘ahu, but now, Jason Momoa’s epic period drama about Hawaiian history is available to stream on Apple TV+.
“It’s our home. It’s our people,” Momoa shared with T&C about the decision to premiere the show in Hawai‘i. “This is the biggest honor to play our ancestors.” Co-creator Thomas Pa’a Sibbett added, “We wanted this show to be built from the inside out, and so we had to do the premiere here because it really belongs to Hawai‘i. We don’t look at it as, ‘It’s us, and look what we did.’ It’s like, “We did this together.’ This is a representation of Hawai‘i and the local people.”
The series debuted on Apple TV+ today with the first two episodes; the rest of the episodes will drop weekly on Fridays through the finale on September 19. As a note: Often, Apple will release episodes early on Thursday night, available at 6 p.m. pacific / 9 p.m. eastern. So there’s a chance you’ll be able to watch these episodes slightly earlier than the official release date. Here, the full episode guide for Chief of War:
