Trump and Von der Leyen strike a deal in transatlantic tariff standoff • FRANCE 24 English

A meeting which put an end to what seemed like a neverending trade war. In Scotland, EU Chief Ursula Vanderlayan and US President Donald Trump celebrated their new trade deal. Uh we’ve reached a deal. It’s a good deal for everybody. I believe and uh it’s I think you were saying this is probably the biggest deal ever reached in any capacity, trade or beyond trade. It is. I’m going to let you say I but I think it’s the biggest deal ever made. Thank you very much. Congratulations. A round of applause to sign off a tense day of negotiations. The US will impose a 15% blanket tariff on imports of EU products with bilateral exceptions for products such as aircraft or critical raw materials. A relief for Brussels considering Donald Trump had threatened to impose 30% tariffs if a deal was not reached. The EU meanwhile has pledged to further open its markets to American exports. At the same time, we will give better access for American products to our market, this will benefit European consumers and make our businesses more competitive. Because when the European Union and the United States work together as partners, the benefits are tangible on both sides. Brussels has also committed to purchasing $750 billion worth of energy whilst also boosting its investment in the US by an additional 600 billion. The question remains which party is walking out with a better deal. Yes, it’s a victory for Trump because he’s twisting the Europeans’s arms as he does with all of his trading partners. The European Commission’s goal was to minimize the impact he could have and get exceptions for the most vulnerable sectors. The US and the EU account for a third of global trade. EU leaders have celebrated the deal, hoping it will bring stability to the world economy.

US President Donald Trump and EU chief Ursula von der Leyen on July 27 announced they had reached a deal to end the tariffs standoff between Europe and the USA, averting a full-blown trade war. The agreement came just before the August 1 deadline for the EU to strike a deal with Washington or face an across-the-board levy of 30 percent.

  4. The shared voice of Cambodians before the meeting between Cambodia and Thailand in Malaysia, mediated by the rotating ASEAN Chair Anwar Ibrahim, co-chaired by the U.S. Secretary of State, and attended by the Chinese special representative, is as follows:
    It is very clear that the Thai generals and army leaders do not obey the civilian government. They initiated the war, ordered strikes with prohibited cluster bombs, and bombed UNESCO sacred sites and Buddhist temples. They have long sought to invade Cambodia to strengthen their power in Thai traditional politics, supported by ultranationalists who express desires to annex Siem Reap, Battambang, and Pursat, while threatening to destroy Phnom Penh. Cambodia appears to be used as a hostage in Thai politics.
    To end and prevent future conflicts, the parties involved should urge the Thai government to bring the matter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). For smaller states to be treated fairly and equally, international law should be the best choice. Cambodians need peace, cooperation, fair treatment, and prosperity, and the same is true for the Thai people.

  13. Reciprocal tariffs are good for both countries especially the EU because they are supporting Ukraine they needs money. The citizens of both countries should contribute through tariffs indirectly, but people are so greedy they just want to take, take and take for their own good. President Kennedy said, Is what you can do to your country, not what your country can do to you. And GOD will Bless you!

  22. Ppl saying 15% is reasonable makes me laugh.
    When you have to purchase 750B energy from the US, the tariff is no longer relevant.
    The people will suffer from the high cost of electricity, and the company will suffer more.
    Nobody will purchase the goods from Europe, because they are too expensive.
    Even if you can make some money, you have to invest another 600B in the US, and that's not enough; you have to raise the defense budget to buy those outdated US weapons.
    This is not a deal, this is a slave contract
    And I'm not on AI yet; the energy is the backbone of AI, which means that the EU will soon lose its last leverage to negotiate with anybody.
    We are doomed and there's no comeback.
