Chelsea welcome German side Bayer Leverkusen to Stamford Bridge for a pre-season friendly on Friday evening.
The Blues haven’t yet started their pre-season campaign due to their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, but they will now face Leverkusen and Italian side AC Milan before their first Premier League game against Crystal Palace later this month.
Enzo Maresca and those in charge of Chelsea’s recruitment have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer, with no fewer than five new signings arriving at Stamford Bridge since the start of the window.
Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens are among those to have joined the Blues this summer, while Noni Madueke is one of those to have departed Stamford Bridge.
Now, it appears that another new signing could be on his way to West London.
According to Fabrizio Romano, defender Jorrel Hato has completed a medical and signed a seven-year-contract with Chelsea ahead of a move to the club.
The 19-year-old is currently with boyhood club Ajax, where he has made more than 110 appearances across all competitions.
Last season he played 50 times across all competitions for the Amsterdam giants, including 31 appearances in the Eredivisie.
Romano claims that Chelsea are set to make the Dutchman their sixth signing of the summer, with Hato set to join up with Maresca’s squad.
The Netherlands international will provide competition for places both at left-back and in the centre of defence at Stamford Bridge.
Current Chelsea left-back, Marc Cucurella, played 54 times for the club last season and the only other senior left-sided full-back in the squad, Ben Chilwell, is expected to leave after spending the latter part of last term on loan at Crystal Palace.
