Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, in partnership with the Cluj County Council and LOT Polish Airlines, has announced a major achievement: the airport has registered its 2 millionth passenger for 2025. This milestone was reached nearly a month ahead of last year’s pace, where the 2 million mark was recorded at the end of August. The airport’s steady growth reflects its key position in Romania’s air transport network and its role as a vital hub in the region.
This achievement marks the seventh time in the airport’s history that it has reached this significant threshold, solidifying its reputation for operational excellence and continuous improvement. To celebrate the occasion, a special event was held with the participation of local authorities, representatives from partner institutions, the media, and staff from LOT Polish Airlines, who played a key role in the event.
The landmark passenger, the 2 millionth to pass through the airport this year, arrived on LOT Polish Airlines flight LO 651 from Warsaw to Cluj-Napoca. Upon arrival, the lucky passenger was warmly greeted and presented with a symbolic gift as a gesture of appreciation for choosing the airport and trusting its services. This milestone not only underscores the airport’s growing importance but also highlights the ongoing confidence passengers and partners have in its operations.
Mr. Viorel Federiga, President of the Board of Directors of Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, stated: “This new performance confirms the airport’s solid development strategy and the airport team’s commitment to meeting the growing demands of passengers. We will continue to support modernization and expansion projects, so that Cluj International Airport remains an essential pillar of connectivity and economic development in the region. We thank everyone who contributes daily to this performance.”
Mr. David Ciceo, Director General of Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, pointed out:“Exceeding the 2 million passenger threshold for the seventh time is not only a statistical achievement, but also a confirmation of the sustainable evolution of the airport, supported by the new records recorded after the first half of the year. We will continue to focus on developing infrastructure and services, in order to best meet the needs of our passengers and partners, to whom we thank for the trust they have placed in us.”
Mr. Jakub Malecki, General Manager for Romania and the Republic of Moldova of LOT Polish Airlines stated: “We are proud that the 2.000.000th passenger of Cluj-Napoca International Airport in 2025 arrived on board a LOT Polish Airlines flight from Warsaw. This milestone is a testament to the ever-growing partnership between LOT and Cluj-Napoca, a city we have been serving since 2016. Romania remains an important and dynamic market for us – and we are delighted to support connectivity, tourism and business between our nations. This is a special moment for us – it reflects the trust that passengers have in LOT and we are honored to share this celebration with our partners in Cluj.”
Cluj-Napoca’s Avram Iancu International Airport boasts a diverse and extensive flight network, currently offering over 50 scheduled destinations across Europe and the Middle East. In addition to these year-round routes, the airport also provides seasonal charter flights to popular tourist hotspots. This broad connectivity not only facilitates regional tourism but also plays a key role in attracting investment to the area, further solidifying the airport’s importance as a strategic hub for both business and leisure travel.
The surpassing of 2 million passengers in 2025 underscores a clear upward trend in traffic, reaffirming the airport’s growing prominence as a regional leader in Romania. The airport’s impressive performance has continued from the first half of the year, which saw record-breaking results compared to the previous year. However, July delivered an even greater achievement: on July 29, the airport processed 13,760 passengers, setting a new high for daily traffic in the month of July.
To support the rising demand and ensure continued growth, Cluj International Airport is investing in modernization and expanding its operational capacity. These infrastructure upgrades are designed to enhance efficiency and improve the travel experience for both passengers and airlines, preparing the airport for an increasingly complex and high-volume air traffic environment. With these investments, the airport strengthens its commitment to being a trusted partner for the community, travelers, and airline operators alike.
