When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as working royals in 2020, they made it clear that they were happy to be financially independent. Five years later, it doesn’t seem to be working out so well for them following a string of failed professional projects, which has reportedly now put them under serious financial pressure.

The Sussexes haven’t appeared to have much luck professionally over the past five years, with the most recent blow being that Netflix hasn’t renewed their $100M deal after lackluster ratings. “There’s no animosity from either side,” an insider reportedly told The Sun about the termination of the contract, adding: “Things have just run their course.” Hmm…

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Are Reportedly Seeking ‘Handouts’ From The Royal Family

While their initial Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan attracted a huge global audience – most likely due to the bombshells dropped in there – follow-up projects weren’t as successful, to put it mildly. Prince Harry’s polo documentary, for example, was heavily slammed, and Meghan’s cooking and lifestyle show With Love, Meghan was also widely criticized and failed to crack Netflix’s Top 300, landing at a dismal 383.

Prior to the Netflix blow, the pair parted ways with Spotify after just one season of Meghan’s Archetypes podcast, and there has been controversy after controversy with Meghan’s lifestyle brand, previously American Riviera Orchard, now named As Ever.

This lack of professional success and potential bankruptcy becoming more real by the day could perhaps be one of the reasons why Prince Harry and Meghan want to reunite with King Charles and the rest of the royal family, which is a sentiment shared by several people…

Is Their Lack Of Professional Success The Real Reason Prince Harry And Meghan Want To Reconcile With The Family?

According to The Express, royal author Robert Jobson talked about the couple’s current financial situation on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show. He explained that they are putting their egos to one side, and are “begging” for handouts from the royal family during the alleged peace talks that said to be currently happening.

“Well, the deal was always set about $100M, wasn’t it?” Jobson reportedly said, in reference to the Netflix deal. “And the talk of that figure sort of blew a lot of people’s minds, but I think that was for productions and things that they’re supposed to have done,” he continued.

“Where does it leave them?” Jobson asked, before adding: “Probably with a bit of a bowl out, looking for some handouts.” He then said what many other people are thinking: “Maybe that’s why they were over with their staff, were over here having discussions with the King. I don’t know.”

The prospect of bankruptcy seems to be very real for the Sussexes now that they don’t have their Netflix deal, with an insider telling RadarOnline last month: “Meghan and Harry rely on this deal to sustain upkeep on their $29M mansion and their huge range of staff. Without it, and without massively curbing their spending, they could be headed for bankruptcy.”
