Sydney Sweeney has unexpectedly become the center of a media storm following her appearance in a new American Eagle ad campaign.
Sweeney swings red and blue
In the video, the Euphoria and White Lotus star says: “Genes are passed down from our parents and can determine things like hair color, personality and even eye color… My genes are blue.” The playful wordplay – referencing both genetics and denim – ignited a flurry of online speculation over the actress’s political leanings, especially in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
The discussion took a more serious turn when The New York Post reported that Sweeney had registered as a Republican voter in June 2024. That detail quickly snowballed, drawing in reactions from commentators across the political spectrum.
And then, Donald Trump himself got involved.
What did Trump say about Sweeney?
When asked about the story during a stop in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the president was all smiles. “Oh, now I love her commercial,” he joked, laughing with reporters before boarding Air Force One. He went on to call the denim ad “fantastic.”
Vice President JD Vance also weighed in, criticizing Democrats who lashed out at the actress for appearing in a commercial marketed toward young people. “They see a pretty girl selling jeans to kids and they lose their minds,” he said.
