August the 6th, 2025 – The Kvarner tourism results for 2025 thus far have offered a mix bag, with decreases and increases in some unexpected places.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, over the first seven months of this year, Kvarner has recorded two percent more tourist overnight stays compared to the same period last year. This was reported by the director of the Kvarner Tourist Board, Irena Peršić Živadinov at a recently held press conference. In the area covered by the Kvarner Tourist Board, which is primarily Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, there were also three percent more arrivals in 2025’s initial seven months. Particular satisfaction with the pre-season results has been noted.
kvarner tourism in terms of hotels and private accommodation
Turning to Kvarner tourism results for the summer month of July, there were two percent fewer overnight stays realised in the Kvarner Tourist Board’s area than in July last year. However, Peršić Živadinov pointed out that in July this year, hotels recorded an increase of four percent, while private accommodation saw four percent fewer overnight stays. In five-star categorised private accommodation units, there was an increase of seven percent, in four-star facilities it was the same as last year, three-star facilities saw a decrease of five percent, and those with lower categories experienced a decrease of as much as eight percent compared to 2024.
In very many cases, three-star facilities have raised their prices, and this hasn’t been accompanied by an increase in quality or service levels. That means that guests are now typically choosing facilities with more stars for the same or slightly higher prices, or are simply going to hotels, according to the director. There were eight percent fewer Germans in Kvarner in July, the same number of Slovenes as last year, as well as 15 percent more Poles, she added. In the first seven months of 2025, hotels in the Kvarner area achieved an increase in overnight stays of eight percent, family accommodation by one percent, and campsites saw three percent fewer overnight stays. The cause for that was a very rainy May, said Peršić Živadinov.
the germans are only happy to pay more for higher quality…
In July, there were two percent fewer Germans making up the Kvarner tourism numbers, totalling around 45,000. Peršić Živadinov warned that Germans make up 30 percent of the market and are extremely sensitive to price increases, especially if this isn’t accompanied by an increase in quality. “We really do need to be careful not to damage the image of this destination in the long term,” she said.
Among the regions of Kvarner, Rab achieved the largest increase in overnight stays in seven months, at five percent. Krk saw three percent more, the Opatija Riviera, Gorski Kotar and the Crikvenica-Vinodol region had one percent more, and the Rijeka Ring and the Cres-Lošinj archipelago achieved the same results as in 2024. Peršić Živadinov was pleased to point out that the Croatian market is responding well overall, as domestic tourists in Kvarner achieved eight percent more overnight stays than last year.
other destinations thus far
According to data from Croatia’s praised eVisitor system, from the beginning of the year to the end of July, Dubrovnik-Neretva County recorded 1,234,961 arrivals. That’s one percent more than in the same period last year, as well as 4,842,275 overnight stays, which is two percent more than last year.
The most numerous guests in the first seven months were the British, followed by the Americans, Poles and domestic guests from elsewhere across Croatia. In July, Dubrovnik-Neretva County recorded 422,364 arrivals and 2,026,228 overnight stays, which is on par with July 2024.
The most numerous guests in July were British, Polish and Slovenian. Dubrovnik therefore leads the list of county destinations with 2.4 million overnight stays recorded, the same as in the same period last year. It is followed by Orebić with 495,000 overnight stays (2.6 percent more than last year) and Konavle with 459,000 registered overnight stays (the same as last year).
