_In Glasgow, Uber and business leaders have called for scrapping the limit on cab drivers to make it easier for people to go home at the end of the night.
However drivers held a rally against the possibility, fearing it will squeeze an already tight industry even further._
Taxi drivers whose card machine never seems to be working, impose outrageous arbitrary fares in manky cabs can take a running fuck to themselves.
Nightlife Minister should pass the Bucky pls
The government should stay away from the economy….full stop
We’ve already enough alcohalics in government. I jest but this wouldn’t be an all bad idea
I volunteer the fuck out of that!!
What’s Kenny McCaskill upto these days?
Why when the stock response will be to blame Westminster and say it’s everyone else’s fault….
I nominate dj badboy apparently he got a bottle of bucky on a fiver deal
wtf thought we had the most alcohol related deaths in the UK but hey pubs are losing money ,who’s round is it?
Many towns in the Netherlands have these.
They call them *Night Mayors*. 🤦 which presumably isn’t a pun in Dutch.
Right, ok, I’m going to get pelters for this but this is a good idea if it’s done properly.
A weird quirk of Scottish licensing law is that to sit on a licensing board you cannot have any connection to the industry. It’s to prevent nepotism, but a side effect is that the industry is by design governed by a body that has no real understanding of it. Someone who can be a voice to stop stupid/unworkable decisions would be very welcome.
EDIT: ‘if it’s done properly’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting here
I predict this will happen if only because then the SNP will have yet another minister – got to reward the loyal MSPs!
I think a lot of businesses are failing to understand there’s a shift happening. The number of people who want to go to alcohol focused overpriced clubs is diminishing. Younger people are drinking less, sleeping more, apparently even the good old fashioned one-night-stand is becoming less popular.
Yet all these proposals I see just seem to want to bring back the early 00s and help delusional club/venue owners that won’t adapt.
>Scotland should have ‘nightlife minister’ like Australia – report
Great idea, except – they turned our local nightclub into a mosque
Nightlife in Australia is generally pretty shit compared to here. Early closing, people funnelled in to mega casino’s, weird rules about what drinks you can order at certain times of day and ordering for others. Sydneys lockout laws were a disaster as well..
