  1. Easy to forget but everything that is happening in Ireland today – housing, health, mental health services, education shortages, social issues, security – is a direct result of Bertie and his government.

  2. it is an absolute slap in the face, in fairness, should Bertie be their preferred candidate.

  3. Just want to highlight something people keep (annoyingly) missing. She’s says all the bertieS aka plural aka the rest of FFG. The bike shed. The housing minister failures etc.

Bertie was named but honestly just rebrand FFG to Berties because it’s true. They’re all useless and corrupt. From the bike sheds, to the expenses claimed to Michael Lowry’s “Independent” group.

Feck em all. Not just him

  4. Not a huge fan of her music, but a big fan of her message

  5. This is my tinfoil hat moment but I can see Berties campaign trying to spin the facts around the recession as a “takedown” from the establishment and some people running with that narrative just because they don’t want to see a progressive candidate winning.

  6. Who in their right mind thinks someone who told a nation to kill themselves would be a potential candidate for the presidency?

  7. It’s clear as day Bertie is planning on running, I mean nobody heard a peep out of him for years, then suddenly he pipes up months before a presidential election where it’s strongly rumoured he’s going to run.

If Fianna Fail had any decency, they’d just steer clear and run with someone else. Just not a good look.

  8. Reeling in the years today was 1997 and referred to the McCracken tribunal. These parties, it just goes on and on

  9. Not even Fianna Fáil would be this political stupid…..Mother Superior Anti-Choice Mary “3 pensions” Hanafin or Bertie “Brown Envelope/Religious Orders Child abuse sweetheart deal” Ahern…..

  10. I mean, Fontaines wrote one of the biggest Irish tunes of the decade about how them and Fine Gael are cunts & people still voted em back in

Some people are just gonna keep voting for the same pillocks all the time, and the best of us are just gonna leave

  11. I don’t think Bertie Ahern should run for the presidency, I am surprised that anyone with any experience in politics think it would be a good idea. He was dodgy was fuck. His reputation and history makes a dodgy character. FF politicians would have to go on doorsteps/tv programs and defend that. It would drag the party through the dirt again and remind voters of its history. Something that was not a vote winner for them in recent years.

Bertie Ahern used to have good political instincts so I am even surprised he thinks it would be a good idea to run. Maybe his ego is overruling his common sense. He could be charming and runs a great campaign but it is a different world now.

  12. If Bertie does run, that song will 100% be in the background of the election section in the 2025 Reeling in the Years

  13. I love it! This AND the song itself. Surprised that a twenty nine year old would have even heard of Bertie!

  14. This sub has been convinced that FF are going to run Bertie for 2 or 3 years now without a shred of any evidence to that effect.

It’s not going to happen. I don’t think even they have the brass balls to do it even if Bertie does.

  15. Why she named after the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport plan anyway?

  16. FF should go with Roy Keane… & tell him that he’s fuckin’ running & that’s the end of it.

  17. It shouldn’t take a song to squash any hope or Bertie getting into the presidency but if this song helps put form on the complicated feelings people have and directs it to a complete rejection of him thay would be fantastic. Fuck the unaccountable leaders who gambled with people’s lives , lost and got to walk away without a whiff of a consequence

  18. Its important to remember that no member of FF, past or present, is even slightly sorry for the squandering of the celtic tiger, and they’d happily do it again if given the chance.

  19. Politics aside… Euro Country is a banger.

It’s been swirling in my head for the past 2 weeks.

  20. The worst thing about this is he would be a brilliant president. He gets the role & is respected internationally but i could never vote for him..

  21. Is it not a shirt in support of Bertie?

There were dozens of posters claiming it was when it was first released?

Something about him being a grafter, a peace maker, and lifting the country out of poverty?

  22. Most of my friends parents lost jobs or all of their investments during that crash. My mum never worked again and my dad’s business almost went under. He is still 200k down on an investment property he bought in 2006.

I left for Australia, half my friends went to London. Thankfully they’re nearly all home now but my brother in laws group all left for London en-masse and they’re all still away.

Bertie Ahern was corrupt, irresponsible, arrogant, and he can never be allowed back into Irish public life.

When I was in Australia I was so scared following the news of the IMF bailout at home. It was an incredible humiliation for us. We were one of the PIIGS. Do you remember the 2 Fianna Fail Ministers lied about the IMF bailout happening when the IMF officials were already in Dublin.

Do you remember the Galway Races Tent?

Do you remember how the Irish Financial Regulator Patrick Neary was allowed to retire with a massive pay-off as our banking system collapsed shortly after he had assured that all our banks were solvent and the government Guaranteed the bondholders.

Not all this was done by Bertie Ahern but that entire government followed the culture he had put in place

  23. Didn’t know anything about her, but I just gave the song a listen, then watched an interview with her by some French media. She’s smart, eloquent, and on the ball. I’d consider her as a presidential candidate.

  24. I doubt many of them even know of cmat let alone listen to her music.

  25. It’s sad that they don’t realize how grossly unpopular Bertie is unless it’s communicated via chart hit. Do they not talk to anyone?

  26. Are they that out of touch to ever consider him? Genuinely? or am I giving them far too much credit here.

  27. The song is a banger. But I don’t see it pushing the needle. The people it might affect I could see more likely to see the Bertie clothes shes wearing as an endorsement without knowing the meaning of the lyrics.
