Weeklong Jubilee celebration for young Catholics closes with Rome mass • FRANCE 24 English

[Applause] This weekend, 800,000 Catholics gathered on the outskirts of Rome to hear Pope Leo I 14th for this year’s youth Jubilee. Reflect on your way of living. Seek justice in order to build a more humane world. Serve the poor. and so bear witness to the good that we would always like to receive from our neighbors. All week long, pilgrims have descended on Rome to visit holy sites, pray, and attend religious concerts. Saturday evening, crowds filled an open air space the size of around 70 football fields to attend an evening vigil and mass. [Music] It was an intense experience, full of hope. You don’t come across it every day. I don’t know if it was the atmosphere of the Jubilee that helped us or the people we met. Although the war is increasing, where budgets are going to skyrocket, uh we need to stay strong and true to our values and fight for peace. As ironic as that sounds, uh it’s the only thing that we as young people can do today. The rest of the year, various groups will have their own Jubilee services, including migrants, prisoners, and educators.

Pope Leo XIV on Sunday (August 2) led a final Mass in Rome attended by hundreds of thousands Catholic youths, marking the end of a weeklong encounter with the next generation of the faithful. On Saturday night, before an twilight vigil led by the pope, organisers had confirmed the attendance of 800,000 people in the vast, open-air space on Rome’s eastern outskirts, and on Sunday the Vatican said that number had grown to one million people.
